Behaviour Interventionist

**Job Summary**
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, playful, and motivated Behavioural Interventionist to work closely with a 4 year old autistic girl and her autistic 2-year old sibling to support them in daily activities, co-operative play, and social developmental growth. Both children are verbal, bright, and love to play (they are low support needs).

As a Behavioural Interventionist, you will help our daughter work on her social and group skills with her toddler-aged younger brother, including communication, and developmental skills through play and daily routines. You will work on their social interactions, regulation skills, turn taking, sharing, managing big emotions, co-operation, and empathy. Essentially: play therapy.

Your approach should be positive, encouraging, and empathetic, ensuring that both children feel safe and supported. Parent(s) will be located on the property but not directly supervising.

Payment will start at $40/hr and then increase to $50/hr later on in the year (once our second child's autism funding comes through).

**Hours**:
9am-12pm on a weekday (this will be largely up to you and your availability). Once the school year starts (Sept), then ideally you are able to switch to a weekend morning.

**Location**: Our home in northern rural Courtenay.

**Qualifications**:

- A warm, positive attitude with a strong focus on fostering independence and building confidence in children.
- Able to gently assist our daughter work on her social and co-operative skills with her sibling.
- Creativity in using play and activities to teach new skills and engage both children.
- Preferred experience working with children with autism or developmental disorders, preferably with a gentle, neurodiversity affirming approach.
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to stay calm and composed during challenging situations.
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred but not required).
- Criminal record check will be required.
