**Description**:
- Under the responsibility of the Assistant Dean, the Laboratory Technician - Nursing is responsible for the preparation of all laboratories and for assisting the teachers in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work. The Nursing Laboratory Technician is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the laboratories.
Responsibilities and related duties:
Operates, supervises and ensures the maintenance of the labs:
- Supports students during laboratory activities, in collaboration with the teachers. Provides students with drop-in lab times where they can practice nursing skills. Performs the duties of a demonstrator, monitor, supervisor or evaluator using course criteria, as needed; Prepares and organizes labs according to referral sheets completed by the teachers;
- Puts equipment and laboratory in order after labs;
- Ensures compliance with health and safety standards, and security measures, during the use, handling and storage of equipment;
- Prepares laboratories and supplies, when requested, for use by the teachers in the laboratories;
- Maintains the laboratories in a hygienic, esthetic and mechanical working order;
- Utilizes appropriate services as indicated (e.g. laundry services);
- Carries out calibration, maintenance and repair tasks of department equipment;
- Maintains an ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment;
- Prepares purchase requisitions of all needed supplies, repairs, and purchases in a timely manner;
- Prepares work, repair, and IT requisitions, as needed;
- Replace the Nursing and Respiratory and Anesthesiology Simulation lab technician, as needed.
Coordinates the use of laboratory-related resources and records:
- Oversees schedules for laboratories and classes and keeps records of the schedules;
- Oversees the operation of the Nursing & Respiratory Resource Room in conjunction with the Respiratory Laboratory Technician;
- Ensures there are available references, IT and audio-visual material, and maintains equipment in working condition;
- Acts as a resource person for students;
- Arranges the ordering of uniforms, stethoscopes, etc. for students;
- Maintains display and bulletin boards;
- Operates IT and audio-visual equipment;
- Assists with setting up permanent files for student records and maintaining departmental records;
- Assists with departmental clerical work, as needed;
- Supports the Nursing and Respiratory and Anesthesiology Simulation lab technician.
Liaison with other members of the department:
- Communicates with the Nursing Coordinator regarding all expenditures and special requests;
- Collaborates with the liaison person from each teaching team to coordinate lab schedules as necessary;
- Attends departmental meetings, as needed.
- Works within College and department policies and procedures;
- Uses IT and communication tools required for the work to be completed appropriately.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.
Classification: Technicien ou technicienne en travaux pratiques (Laboratory Technician)
Schedule: Monday to Friday - may vary between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will be determined at the beginning of each semester (35 hours per week)**Requirements**:
- Qualifications:
- DEC in Nursing or an appropriate specialty or equivalent;
Conditions related to the specific position:
- Registered nurse in good standing with the OIIQ.
Experience in medical-surgical nursing;
- Understanding of College-age students and ability to work with them;
- Ability to operate IT and audio-visual equipment;
- Strong English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
- Functional French oral communications skills (to be tested);
- Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills (to be tested);
