The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community based Indigenous organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting Resumes for the permanent full-time position of Akwe:go Program Worker.
**Position Objective and Responsibilities **
The Akwe:go Program Worker will ensure the effective delivery of the Akwe:go program such that urban Indigenous at-risk children (aged 7-12) are provided with the support, tools, interventions and healthy activities which will build upon and foster their inherent ability to make healthy choices.
The Akwe:go Program Worker will support children by providing participant-based programming and offering one to one services, this includes designing, planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating all program services and activities.
The Akwe:go Program Worker will conduct strengths and needs assessments for each child and develop action plans to meet their specific goals and needs. The Worker in consultation with parent(s) will coordinate supports/referrals/linkages for the child with internal and community resources. The Worker will also be responsible to lead and participate in consultation services and case conferences within the organization, and with external service providers, where appropriate, to discuss care plans and service needs.
**Qualifications: **
- Post-secondary education in social services or another relevant field; or combination of education and experience deemed acceptable by the Hiring Committee
- Minimum 2-years demonstrated experience working with Indigenous children aged 7 to 12, providing one-to-one supportive services and group programs
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and its importance in healthy child development
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous historical and contemporary issues with emphasis on the impacts that intergenerational trauma, poverty, and child welfare has on child development, family relations and building friendships and community relations
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to create and maintain trusting relationships with children and their parent(s)
- Ability to design, plan and implement programs designed to support healthy child development
- The ability to analyze situations, make appropriate decisions concerning the child’s needs and provide appropriate healing services/programs
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with child focused service providers, including School Boards, local Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child & Family Services agencies
- Ability to work independently and as a team player, with mínimal supervision, and be capable of coordinating activities with other Friendship Centre programs
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and willing to travel
- Good organizational and administrative skills, and report writing skills
- The Worker will be responsible to the policies and procedures as determined by the Board of Directors and under the direct daily supervision of the Program/Human Resource Manager
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer; and
- Must be fully vaccinated (Covid-19)
**Hours**: Monday-Friday, with the availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
**Salary**: $ 48,000.00 annually (with a 6-month probation)
**Benefits**: Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of paid sick time.
**Schedule**: 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed
