**Summary of Duties**:
Reporting to the Division Manager, Water Operations, the Manager, Water Quality is the designated person under the Safe Drinking Water Act for the Corporations compliance responsibilities as it relates to the Drinking Water Quality Management System and day-to-day monitoring of drinking water to ensure compliance under Ontario Regulation 170. This position works in a team environment along side other environmental specialists in the formulation of short
- and long-term water quality workplans, budgets, policy analysis and development, and related business plans and initiatives. The Manager, Water Quality works with technical staff to deliver the programs and provides water quality expertise on City projects, as required, in conjunction with other City Project/Program Managers.
**Work Performed**:
- Provide leadership in the coordination and delivery of the Drinking Water Quality Management System that contributes to the implementation of strategic initiatives for the Water, Wastewater and Storm Water Division to meet Council’s Strategic Plan.
- Responsible for managing employees including hiring, coaching, training, administration, and performance of reporting employees. Respond to sensitive and confidential human resource issues as required.
- Provide leadership in the execution and delivery of services and programs in the following areas of accountability:
- Is the designated Compliance Officer under the Safe Drinking Water Act 2002, on behalf of the Corporation and is the designated person responsible for implementing the Drinking Water Quality Management System, including internal audits and review with Senior Management.
- Oversee the development of a City of London business plan for maintaining safe drinking water within the City of London, meeting the requirements of Regulation 170 and establishing water quality targets that go beyond provincial requirements.
- Oversee and manage water supply staff to ensure compliance with relevant acts and regulations.
- Act as the key liaison person on behalf of the City of London with the provincial regulator on issues of water quality and the related water quality management system.
- Ensure Operators meet certification licensing requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act 2002 including tracking of training through support staff.
- Maintain awareness of global research, federal and provincial policies and initiatives as it relates to water quality, ensuring due diligence on the part of the Corporation as it relates to threats to water quality.
- Undertake the development and implementation of water quality awareness and outreach initiatives as separate undertakings or combined with other environmental programs.

- Provide updates, information and recommendations to the Director, Water, Wastewater and Storm Water Division on priorities with responsibility to operationalize identified goals and strategies.
- Identify and recommend internal controls in the form of policies, procedures, practices in relation to the general and specific risks of the Corporation; ensure internal controls are implemented, monitored and reported on specific to the Division.
- Liaise with unions on issues that affect bargaining unit employees and represent the unit at mediation and arbitration proceedings as required.
