**Key Responsibilities**
You will create programs and events that engage our residents, while addressing their social, spiritual, mental, physical and intellectual needs.
As a positive and active contributor, your key duties will include:
**Programming/Planning**
- Initiate and promote activities both within and outside the community to stimulate and promote residents interest and general well being
- Design and implement programs that address the holistic needs and special interests of residents, based on their input
- Track residents’ activity participation and adjust calendar events accordingly
- Develop monthly newsletter and activity calendar
- Leads and evaluates activities and crafts on a weekly basis to encourage residents to be involved. (Teaches light exercises, shuffleboard, card games etc.)
- Responsible for promoting activities by newsletters, social networking, calendar of events, posters to remind residents, staff and volunteers of upcoming events
- Collaborates with management team to plans and execute special events and theme evenings
**Collaborating/Leading**
- Provide input to Care Plans specific to a resident’s activity, holistic and spiritual needs.
- Select programming partners following The Barrington’s hiring and contracting standards
- Attend management meetings to plan and execute overall goals of the home
- Stay abreast of active aging and generational trends to enhance programming
- Maintain good interpersonal relations with other staff members of the facility to ensure resident’s needs are met
- Collaborates with the Sales Manager to promotes positive community relations with local charities and non-profit organizations.
- Encourages family involvement where applicable
- Orientates new residents and encourage participation in Activity programs
- Collaborate with the Food Service Manager to execute high level events for residents and guests
- Other duties as assigned
**Managing and Supervising**
- Plans, organizes and executes education for front line staff regarding Lifestyle and programs
- Establish and maintain an active volunteer program that recruits and supervises volunteers to assist in the delivery and creation of diverse programs
- Other duties as assigned
**Financial Management**
- Manage monthly budget for activity supplies, entertainment, food, etc., as appropriate
- Maintains ledger for monthly accounting of activities funding
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
For this role, we are seeking someone with a Degree or Diploma in Recreation Therapy with a Gerontology background, facilitating social and recreational programs in a retirement living/health care setting.
You will also have:
- Previous experience planning and delivering programs, for older adults
- Staff/ Volunteer management experience an asset
- Maintains professionalism in all areas of responsibility
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the use of Internet resources
- Experience with support mediums such as Canva and other Programming resources an asset
- Excellent social, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to connect and communicate effectively with diverse audiences
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid Driver's License with good driving record, an asset;
- Self managed, well organized, enthusiastic leader with a positive attitude
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work within and collaborate in a team environment.
- Detail oriented, with good organizational and communication skills and abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and respond with a sense of urgency when required.
- Holds a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Person Screening.
