Position Overview:
**Key duties and responsibilities**
- Liaise with Community agencies and stakeholders to foster a collective approach to supports and service delivery.
- Develop and deliver behaviour management and physical assistance strategies to a wide variety of individuals living with disabilities.
- Plan, organize and deliver high quality, safe and engaging programs for individuals living with disabilities.
- Coordinate inclusion placements and appropriate supports for all City of Guelph recreation programs.
- Work cooperatively with other recreation staff to develop, implement and evaluate year round recreational programs and camps - including aquatics, preschool, children, youth, adults and seniors - to ensure opportunities for, and the integration of, participants living with a disability.
- Provide consultation, education, intervention strategies, problem solving and mediation to individuals living with disabilities, families, municipal staff, affiliates and social service. agencies to ensure meaningful participation in, and equitable access to, municipal recreation programs and services.
- Excellent working knowledge of current Accessibility and Human Rights legislation, standards and city policies.
- Review legislation, standards and trends in accessibility and determine their applicability to the City’s recreation operations.
- Receive and respond to inquiries, requests for information and public feedback related to accessibility issues.
- Develop a framework for evaluating and reporting to senior management on the achievement of inclusion and accessibility goals.
- Lead the staff team working on inclusion and accessibility services, including chairing group meetings and developing and implementing corporate policies and service delivery strategies related to accessibility.
- Support the recruitment, training, scheduling, mentorship and evaluation of a large staff and volunteer complement to support the inclusion of persons living with disabilities in all municipal recreation programs.
**Qualifications and requirements**
- 3-5 years’ experience working directly with children, youth and adults living with disabilities in a Recreation and/or Support Services setting.
- 1-2 years’ experience motivating, training and mentoring part-time and seasonal staff and volunteers in a service-oriented environment.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of various disabilities, behaviour management strategies, crisis interventions, person directed planning, intake processes, and family development/dynamics.
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Child and Family Services Act.
- Knowledge of and experience working with Community Service providers and funders.
- Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proven experience and tact managing highly confidential, sensitive issues and information.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the general public.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve customer inquiries/complaints effectively.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate.
- A satisfactory Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required at time of offer.
- High Five PHCD and Quest 2 Certification considered an asset.
- Experience with Perfect Mind is considered an asset.
- Current BMST, PMAB, NVCI or equivalent certification considered an asset.
- Flexibility to work at different facility locations.
**Hours of work**
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend shifts will be required.
**Pay/Salary**
CUPE 973: Grade 8: $33.19 - $40.76 per hour
