You will have the opportunity to acquire full time hours working as a Long Term Care Assistant.

**Position**: Long Term Care Assistant

**Department**: Nursing

**Reports to**: Dir of Operations, Dir of Care, LPN Supervisor

**Position Scope**:
To ensure visitors, designated caregivers, and volunteers are following all current COVID protocols in place and to provide assistance and support to nursing staff as directed by supervisor.

**Responsibilities**:

- To ensure visitors, designated caregivers, volunteers and specialized workers are following all COVID protocols in place (ie. wearing properly fitted mask)
- Ensure staff, visitors, designated caregivers, and volunteers are wearing the proper PPE
- Extra cleaning of high touch areas (infection prevention and control)
- Sanitize resident’s hands prior to meals
- Spend time socializing with residents
- one on one time
- Monitor and attend to residents ensuring their clothes are clean, hair is brushed etc.
- Recreational activities on weekends and holidays
- bingo, cards, games and one on one time with residents
- To clean wheelchairs covers twice per week and record on flow sheet
- Wipe down walkers and wheelchairs daily
- Ensure IPAC supplies are replenished on floors (hand sanitizer, isolation bins etc.)
- Ensure visitor sign in sheets/residents sign out sheets are replenished
- If time allows, LTCA is to assist and support nursing staff with daily tasks such as: serving meals, clearing and sanitizing tables after meals, escorting residents in wheelchairs to and from dining rooms, answering phone on weekends, bed making, emptying garbages

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Grade XII education is required
- Clean vulnerable sector and criminal record check
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Body mechanics training is recommended
- Previous experience working in long term care is an asset

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $16.50 per hour

Additional pay:

- Overtime pay

- 8 hour shift

COVID-19 considerations:
Employees must provide proof of vaccination and wear a medical mask in the facility. Frequent handwashing and asymptomatic rapid testing are highly encouraged.

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Truro, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

**Education**:

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
