Summer Day Camp Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities Counsellor

**SUMMARY**:
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor - Youth Programs, the Day Camp Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities Counsellor is responsible for providing a quality summer day camp programs for youth ages 11 - 14 years (25 youth/ 8-week camp July 2nd - August 22nd 2025).

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Works with the Supervisor - Youth Programs and WNC Youth Workers to plan, implement a safe,

stimulating and positive youth summer leadership camp daily.

2. Works closely with Youth Recreational and Leisure Coordinator, Volunteers in daily operation of a

safe/stimulating/positive weekly youth summer leadership day camp.

3. Responsible for development and activation of activities that engage campers-strengthening social and

leadership personal resiliency skills.

4. Attends all required training and orientation activities.

5. Arrives for scheduled shifts on time and participates in regular staff meetings.

6. Plans and implements age appropriate, creative and stimulating quality camp program (activities,

swimming, outings, meals, special events and community celebrations) in co-operation staff team.

7. Collects and maintains daily files (camper attendance, registration, outings related, health and

participant information) respecting privacy regulations.

8. Works with Supervisor - Youth Programs to handle and document camp incidents.

9. Assists in communicating with participant families to keep them informed of daily/weekly schedule,

outings and events, etc.

10. Works with participants their families, and staff to assist youth in their personal development.

11. Knows, enforces and follows WNC program safety guidelines, maintaining constant awareness of the

safety and general welfare of all campers, at all times.

12. Identifies and responds to participants behavioural issues as per WNC policies.

13. Assists in the co-ordination of fundraising and community special events.

14. Adheres to all Toronto Public Health COVID-19 Guidelines.

15. Facilitates youth input in program development and implementation while providing leadership and

guidance.

16. Other duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS**:
1. Experience working with youth ages 11 -14 years (including those with special needs).

2. Applicants must meet the funding criteria; be between the ages of 15 and 30 years; be a Canadian

citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the

Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; have a valid SIN at start

of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

3. Successful certification in standard CPR/First Aid (CPR/First Aid training will be provided as part of summer camp training).

4. Must possess a Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Demonstrates background in planning and programming for youth between the ages of 11 - 14

years (including those with special needs).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Some experience in working with children from diverse social, cultural and economic

backgrounds.

**Salary Scale**: $17.20/hour + 6% vacation and mandatory Employment Standards benefits

**Hours**: 35 hours per week / half hour unpaid lunch

**Summer Contract Dates**: June 16th - August 22nd, 2025
