**Duties**:
Basic function: This position serves as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI) in the Vancouver Resident Office. The primary responsibility will be to focus on fostering relationships with DEA’s foreign Canadian law enforcement partners to support DEA’s mission in Canada. The duties include proactively investigating drug related leads, interviewing Canadian and American persons of interest, and pursuing criminal violations and threats related to the U.S and other crimes that fall within the jurisdiction of DEA including: money transfers, land and maritime drug smuggling, international money laundering, controlled deliveries of controlled substances, and the assistance with the adoptions of foreign prosecutions. The FSNI will enhance the DEA mission by providing investigative expertise and liaison activities on transnational organized crime affecting Canada and the United States.

The FSNI will serve as one of the DEA representatives for all Canadian law enforcement agencies and will develop close working relationships with police agencies throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon Territory, and Northwest Territories. Additionally, the FSNI will be a representative for DEA with the US consulate consular section and will maintain criminal investigative files related to international investigations between Canada and the US.

The FSNI will be responsible for establishing relationships with Canadian federal and local law enforcement responsible for enforcing criminal drug investigations and provide assistance to those agencies. The FSNI will review and analyze evidence and intelligence from both U.S. and Canadian sources to determine if investigative leads will be distributed to U.S. and/or Canadian authorities. The FSNI will conduct and coordinate training to U.S. and Canadian authorities pertinent to DEA’s investigative mission.

**Qualifications and Evaluations**:

- Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years verifiable law enforcement/criminal investigations or prosecutorial experience is required

JOB KNOWLEDGE: The FSNI must have verifiable knowledge of Canadian criminal laws and privacy laws; knowledge of US/Canada criminal enforcement; a strong knowledge of Canadian criminal law enforcement and political issues and an in-depth knowledge of investigative methodologies and intelligence practices..
- Education Requirements:
Completion of two years of college studies and completion/graduate from a certified police academy or law practice accreditation is required.
- Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking English is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The Investigator must be proficiently skilled in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint, able to manipulate proprietary databases, and must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and passport. The specialist must also possess strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain high-level contacts within the diplomatic and law enforcement community.
