**Job Description: Case Worker - Community Corrections** Shelter Nova Scotia, located in Halifax, is a not for profit charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of professionals and operated by skilled employees. We believe in a community where everyone has a safe and affordable home. Nehiley House is a community residential facility for residents who identify as female or are gender diverse. We have room for 8 people every night and we can accommodate women and their children through our "Mother/Child" program. We support and engage our residents in a women-centered environment. The location, structure and services offered reflect the needs of the women and the atmosphere promotes growth, healthy living and personal development. **Summary**:Responsible to the Executive Director through the Director of Community Corrections and/or the House Manager, this position is responsible for the operation of the facility to standard while on duty. **Qualifications** Education Graduation from a recognized university/college with a degree/diploma in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Criminology, Corrections or Human Services, or relevant specialty or equivalency as outlined in Shelter Nova Scotia Personnel Policy. Experience Previous experience working in a residential facility, Community Correctional Centre (CCC), Community Residential Facility (CRF), or a similar environment Certifications Enhanced Reliability Security Screening Standard First Aid/CPR Level “C” Non-Violent Crisis Intervention ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training WHMIS - Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System **Salary**: $22.27 per hour **Requirements**: - Strong knowledge of the policies, procedures, structure, mission, and mandate of Shelter Nova Scotia - Able to adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality, code of conduct, policies and procedures - Ability to remain awake, alert, and vigilant at all times while on duty - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Excellent attention to details and organizational skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Applications, including: Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Outlook - Child Abuse Registry check and/or Government of Canada Personnel Screening form may be required depending on the facility where you will be working. These forms are completed at the time of hire. The employment offer is contingent on a clear check. - Interviewing, counseling, and intervention techniques - Knowledge of community programs and services serving individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness - replaced in the responsibilities section - Knowledge of the structure and organization of the Correctional Service of Canada and the applicable legislation (Criminal Code of Canada, Corrections and Conditional Release Act (CCRA), Corrections and Conditional Release Regulations (CCRR), and the Parole Board of Canada (PBC). - Ability to understand cultural differences - Ability to understand the dynamics of resident’s behavior and assess their needs and risks - Ability to accurately and professionally document and maintain activity client interaction notes - Assist residents, through ongoing support, in areas such as crisis management, personal or family problems, education, literacy, employment, budget, life skills, recreation, spiritual and cultural activities - Assist residents to secure housing as required - Assist residents to secure services appropriate to their needs or for public safety requirements such as, substance abuse services, income support, employment services, medical (including mental health) and dental services - Perform First Aid and or CPR as required - Participate in on call rotation as required **Responsibilities** - Maintain professional, ethical boundaries at all times - Maintain positive working relations with government and community agencies - Represent Shelter Nova Scotia in the community in an appropriate and responsible manner - Seek medication funding approval from CSC prior to ordering medications - Complete intakes as necessary - Complete and submit Initial Resident Action Plans and Monthly Progress Updates according to Statement of Work (SoW) and Shelter Nova Scotia policy for those residents assigned to you - Counsel residents, form effective relationships, and gain trust - Understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations - Ability to assist residents in identifying and solving the day-to-day problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community - Responsible to foster an atmosphere that is conducive to the rehabilitation and support process required by residents within the facility - Meet with the resident on an ongoing basis to ensure they are adhering to their Correctional Plan and expectations surrounding reintegration - Liaise with the Parole Officer as needed to remain informed regarding the progress of residents assigned to you and to monitor th
