**Job Title**: Marine Instructor
**Reports to**: Training and Operations Manager
**Location, Hours, Compensation**:
Primarily based out of Survival Systems Training Limited’s (SSTL) main office at 40 Mount Hope Avenue, Dartmouth. Deployments are required for this position, travelling within Canada and internationally.
SSTL hours are generally 0730-1630, Monday through Friday, with some variation as required by operations. This position is expected to be 40 hours per week, paid hourly.
This position is starting at $35.00 an hour, with opportunity for increase based on additional qualifications.
**Job Purpose**:
This position’s primary role is to delivery marine safety and survival training courses. These courses include SSTL’s proprietary courses and those delivered under third party regulatory authorities (ex: Transport Canada; Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada)
Primary Duties include (but are not exclusive to):
- Delivery of theoretical and practical lessons for SSTL’s marine courses
- Vessel support and operations, including year-round outdoor work
- Administration for courses
- Communicate with clients
- Record keeping and documentation (including maintenance procedures and records)
- Development and upkeep of course material
- Working safely, and always ensuring safe working conditions
- Deployments to deliver training offsite, both domestic and international
Physical Requirements:
- Swimming, demonstrations of sea survival techniques (ex: demonstrate methods of rescue such as climbing Jacob’s ladder)
- Outdoor activities, in all weather conditions (ex: operating small vessels)
- Classroom lecture delivery
**Mandatory Qualifications**:
- Marine experience and appropriate safety training qualifications
- Instructional ability
- Valid driver’s license, with clean driver’s abstract
- Familiarity with MS Office and basic computer use
**Desirable Experience / Qualifications**:
- RHIB coxswain experience, both prop boats and jets boats
- TEMPSC coxswain experience
- General small vessel experience
- Emergency response experience
- Marine certification such as Master or Fishing Master, or proof of pursuing such a ticket

- Dartmouth, NS B2Y 4K9: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
