Toronto, Canada Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Full time

As Canada’s largest mental health care provider, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health provides evidence to drive system and policy change through the implementation of innovations and novel service delivery interventions. The Research Operations, Services and Support (ROSS) Office is a central group within CAMH Research that provides administrative support to ensure that all research activities carried out at CAMH or by CAMH personnel comply with funder, governmental or institutional policies and regulations.

In this role you will:

- Manage a team of three (with growth possibilities) and oversee activities within the portfolio.
- Oversee the review and submission of research grants, ensuring agency and institutional requirements are met and providing full development services (narrative content support; draft letter composition; institutional component development; and strategic and editorial review).
- Review grant budgets for compliance with funder guidelines, expense eligibility, institutional policies, and cost recovery mechanisms (e.g., indirect costs, service provider fees, etc.).
- Oversee award finalization and non-financial post-award processes (i.e., progress reporting, institutional approval tasks, etc.).
- Oversee the pre-award research approval process for CAMH Research.
- Maintain expert knowledge of funder policies, program updates, and funding guidelines, particularly for Canadian and U.S. federal funders (i.e., CIHR, NIH).
- Work with senior leadership on projects related to planning for the broader research program and the research office (e.g., RSF, IPG).
- Manage CAMH’s internal funding competitions, including liaison with stakeholders, development of funding program guidelines, recruitment of external committee members, and participation as a member on review committees.
- Oversee communication strategies for the identification and announcement of funding opportunities; internal deadlines; and services provided by the Grants & Awards Team.
- Plan and implement frameworks, tools, and resources to improve grant success rates (i.e., Internal Peer Review, workshops, templates, internal web pages, etc.).
- Develop and maintain grant processes and policies to improve efficiency, minimize institutional risk and add value for CAMH scientists and staff.
- Enforce policies and procedures to optimize the use of resources, safeguard research funds, maintain reliable information systems, and compliance with external granting agency guidelines/certifications.
- Produce grant data reports and briefing materials for key internal and external stakeholders.
- Serve on internal committees and working groups to represent grant administration perspective (i.e., policy working group; Research Manager forum).
- Maintain relationships in the research sector to access best practices in the management of research grants (i.e., TAHSN, CARA)
- Lead and manage the development and submissions of external high-profile and large strategic funding competitions (e.g., CFI, CRC). For the competitions within the portfolio:

- Serve as institutional point of contact for federal, provincial, and other funding agencies (e.g., CFI, CRC, NIH, etc.)

This position will be primarily located at 250 College Street.

**Job Requirements**

The Grants & Awards Manager must have:

- Graduate degree from a recognized institution in a field related to health, business, public administration, or arts & sciences.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a combination of pre-award, post-award or operational role within a hospital/academic research institution.
- Experience managing and mentoring direct reports.
- Experience in leading the submission and implementation of large institutional or strategic grant submissions such as CFI or CRC.
- Expert knowledge of the Canadian, US and International funding landscape and granting policies (e.g. Tri-Agency, PHS/NIH, etc.).
- Strong communication (written and verbal), reporting and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse programs and participants to maintain integrity and consistency.
- Advanced level knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
- Experience with electronic research administration/workflow software/databases.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
- Ability to handle a high volume of diverse projects simultaneously.
- High level of literacy and numeracy.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in teams and individually.
- Certifications, such as the Mohawk College/Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) Certificate in Research Administration or Grant Professional Certification (GPC) offered by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI), are an asset.

**Please note**: This full-time, permanent position is NOT part of a bargaining unit.
