Phlebotomy Technician

The Phlebotomy Technician is an individual trained to provide support to Provincial Laboratory Services carrying out phlebotomy, intravenous line insertions, accessioning functions and additional pre-analytical and post analytical functions.
**Duties include, but are not limited to**:
- Perform phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and capillary collections;
- Intravenous line insertions for those staff assigned to specific areas of acute care (i.e. ED’s);
- Data entry of laboratory orders into the electronic health record;
- Interact and assist patients with specimen drop-off’s for home collected sample;
- Pre analytical procedures such as centrifuging samples, proper sample storage, packaging and shipping samples to the nearest laboratory site for testing;
- Cleaning and decontaminating equipment, instruments, and work areas;
- Validating and providing input for SOPs;
- Providing guidance, training, and orientation to other Phlebotomy technicians and students;
- Assist Medical Laboratory Assistants and Medical Laboratory Technologists with generalized duties;
- Other related duties as required.
**Minimum Qualifications**:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- In addition to, either post-secondary education in a medical discipline with phlebotomy training or successful completion of a Phlebotomy distance course approved by Health PEI or a minimum of 6 months’ work experience with venipuncture and finger sticks as verified by the employer in line with CPTG requirements
- Must hold or be eligible to hold upon offer of employment registration as an Associate non-Certificate membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.
**Other Qualifications**
- Experience working with diverse populations, asset
- Technical experience in a medical laboratory or other related health field, preferred
**Salary Range**:$25.06 - $26.00 per hour
**Bi-Weekly Hours**:75.0 Hours Bi-Weekly; Days
