Pipe Fabrication Estimator

Edmonton Exchanger Group of Companies provides a wide range of products and services for the oil and gas, petrochemical and power generation industries. We specialize in the fabrication of pressure vessel components, heat exchangers, custom steel products and pipe spools. In addition, we provide shutdown and full-scale maintenance services for refineries and petrochemical plants.

We are searching for a pipe fabrication estimator/project-coordinator/purchaser to who will report directly to the Manager of Fabrication Estimating and be responsible for preparing detailed estimates, interacting with the client and coordinating the fabrication of piping spools. This position requires close interaction with the pipe shop team which includes: the dedicated pipe shop purchaser, the other estimator, pipe shop superintendent, pipe shop QC and the accounting department.

**Principal Duties, Responsibilities and Accountability**
**Primary Responsibilities**
- Quoting & Customer Relations: preparing detailed estimates, including material take-offs and material/component pricing for piping spools and related equipment in the heavy oil, refinery, petrochemical and fertilizer industries
- Receive inquiries (request for quotes (RFQ)) from potential clients.
- Piping Spools, Process Piping ASME B31.3 and Power Piping ASME B31.1
- New construction of piping spools
- Repairs of piping spools and components
- Alterations to existing piping spools
- Valve modifications
- Furnace piping shop pre-fabrication (hair pins and candy cane partial weldments)
- Various material types: carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, titanium, and nickel alloys
- Other Petro-chemical plant equipment
- Coordinate with the other estimator on reviewing and evaluating new RFQs. Evaluate if the RFQ can be reviewed and quoted by the bid close date. If not, consider asking for a bid extension if it is advantageous to pursue this work. Work as a team with the other estimator to coordinate and balance the quoting and project coordinating work load.
- Determine if the RFQ’s fabricated delivery date can be met and evaluate the load it would place on the pipe shop resources. If the bid was successful, could the pipe shop execute the work successfully and meet the client’s required delivery? Determine a realistic preliminary shop schedule.
- Decide if the RFQ should be pursued or declined.
- Determine if all weld consumables, equipment and hydro-test blinds are available in house or must be purchased / rented to complete the scope of work. Determine if required welding procedures are already developed or if any need to be developed.
- Communicate scope of material supply to Pipe Shop Purchaser for material and 3rd party services quoting.
- Using factored diameter inch pricing prepare EdEx fabrication estimate.
- Determine job costs and proposed schedule.
- Communicate with pipe shop team to gain feedback on applicable areas of concern relating to the quote
- Prepare formal quotation and get it reviewed before submission to client
- Submit quote to client and follow up on quote.
- Report to the Manager of Fabrication Estimating
- Provide shop support to Ed Ex field division related to shut-down and maintenance work: rush repairs, supply components

**Project Coordination: Job Set Up**
- Establish and maintain contact with the client throughout the duration of the job for those jobs where the estimator is appointed as project coordinator; ensure information flow between client and various Ed Ex internal positions is maintained.
- Upon receipt of a purchase order (PO), set up the job with the accounting department and obtain a job number.
- Categorize the estimated costs into the categories required for SAP system. The purpose of these categories is track estimated vs actual costs.
- Notify pipe shop team of award and job number: QC, Purchaser, Estimators, Superintendent and Production team.
- Prepare drawing package and send to 3rd party drafter so they can create the shop fabrication drawings.
- Determine staffing requirements and schedule with Pipe Shop Superintendent/supervision.
- Check drafter supplied shop fabrication drawings for errors. Provide shop drawings to customer for review and approval.
- Ensure fabrication materials, fabrication drawings, and quality control inspection test plan are all in place at the start of the job.
- Communicate with Welding/QC in regards to ensuring client specifications are met - adequate consideration in quoting stage, and full consideration for awarded jobs.
- **Project Coordination: Monitoring Fabrication**
- Monitor job fabrication progress. Watch for material delays, quality control approvals and scope changes.
- Issue and manage change orders; ensure changes to scope for awarded jobs are quoted and added to original PO in a timely manner.
- Monitor job costs and progress.
- Assist with tracking jobs and expenses, work with accounting department to determine job cost / profitability at end of job
