Our Strategy function at works closely with the Canadian CEO and EC to define organizational strategy - and facilitate the execution through the senior management community. We need an

Assistant Vice-President (AVP) to support the Vice-President (VP) in this process - with a wide remit across the enterprise to support both broad and narrow strategic problems.

The team provides stewardship of the overall Corporate strategy and support the production of the business plan. In this role, you will both develop and provide oversight/support on approved development initiatives.

The AVP will provide support to the CEO/CFO, and office of the CEO and VP Finance in liaising with and supporting Group Strategy inquiries and initiatives and has opportunity to participate in selective Group Strategy work.

What you'll do:
Strategy & Development- Participation and facilitation of the strategy process across our Canadian business, ensuring lines of business are aligned with the strategy and the overall business is aligned with Group Strategy, to identify new value creation and business growth opportunities.- Support the identification of strategic options for our business and develop a long term strategic plan to prioritize and realize the value of those selected option(s)- Contribute to strategy development and a strategy process that’s thought-provoking, stretches organizational thinking, exploring emerging opportunities.- Contribute to design and implementation of strategy planning activities and sessions with Canadian SMG.- Provide supporting materials for Group executive presentations, board meetings (Aviva plc, and Canada)

Strategic Analysis- Identify and analyze strategic issues facing Aviva Canada by understanding and monitoring relevant trends, as well as the changing competitive landscape.- In depth knowledge of competitive landscape- Provide Canadian EC team with clear insights into competitive environments and finding opportunities and providing input to the expected future business performance

Strategy Execution & Alignment- Facilitate and lead others to translate strategy into the business planning process in collaboration with Finance and other team members.

Portfolio/Development- Ensure the 3 core Business Divisions investments improve returns from the Aviva brand, the capital invested and uses standard methodology- Lead where appropriate and advise on business development opportunities, providing high quality market research/intelligence to the Canadian Executive- Plays a role, as required, in M&A activities.- Tracks performance of Strategy execution and results delivery through the Strategy scorecard mechanism.

What you'll bring:
- Degree/equivalent in Finance or Actuarial Science, preferably CPA/FCAS- Extensive knowledge of innovative strategic analysis and planning models and techniques- Broad based business experience and strong business insight- Project Management skills- Outstanding Facilitation skills- Knowledge of financial services marketplace, and in particular, the insurance sector- Knowledge of the Canadian Regulatory environment.- Strong ability to influence and communicate across all areas of the business. A pragmatic approach to deliver on strategy execution- Exposure to M&A, strategic alliances/partnerships, and business development an advantage.- Sensitivity to cross cultural influencing and relationships- Ability to demonstrate the creation of a strategic vision and business strategies that have been successfully implemented- Experience gained within a strategy function - corporate or consulting.- 8+ Years of experience in similar function with progressive experience- Experience of leading the development and implementation of strategy- Experience and credibility facilitating sessions with Senior Executives.- Has supported and led as appropriate, change initiatives.- Experience working in a matrix environment
