**Marine Mechanical Systems Technical Specialist / Life Cycle and Materiel Manager (LCMM)**

**Position Summary**

Thales Canada is looking for a **Marine Mechanical Systems Technical Specialist / Life Cycle and Materiel Manager (LCMM)** to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.

The **Marine Mechanical Systems Technical Specialist / LCMM** is responsible for engineering support and technical oversight of various Marine Propulsion, Steering, Auxiliary and other mechanical systems on board the various platforms of the Royal Canadian Navy. Accountable to the Engineering Services Manager and working directly with the Mechanical Services Engineer and the rest of the Engineering and Supportability Team, this role will support various activities to establish and maintain the configuration and design intent of the marine auxiliary and other mechanical systems on the ships and manage any changes.

**Key Areas of Responsibility**
- Providing technical support of deficiencies of equipment or capability, developing technical solutions and risk assessments; Providing technical advice to enable auxiliary and mechanical equipment and/or systems to be correctly operated or maintained;
- Conducting technical investigations into problems associated with marine auxiliary, propulsion, steering and other mechanical systems, equipment and/or software issues, including failure analysis and solution recommendation;
- Developing and reviewing technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, test and trials agendas, and engineering change documentation and drawings;
- Investigating and formulating plans to deal with equipment obsolescence and material compatibility issues, conducting alternate part assessments and recommendations; Analyzing requirements associated with baseline changes to the ships configuration, equipment and software;
- Preparing Work Packages and cost estimates for customer approval; Preparing documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers;
- Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers, Ship Staff and Thales Service Delivery to support the investigation and resolution of defects;
- Supporting and managing activities associated with the design and configuration control of auxiliary, propulsion, steering and other mechanical systems including conducting functional and physical configuration audits, and deviations and waivers documentation and risk assessments; and Supporting software management changes and development of requirements documentation.

**Minimum Requirements**
- Minimum education requirements:

- 3-year technical program diploma (for Technologists) or 3 year technical program diploma (for Technicians) in a marine technical field offered by a recognized technical institute; or Certified a technologist or technician by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a relevant field or certified body; or Certified as one of the following electrical technical trades of the Canadian Armed Forces: Marine Technician RQ-PO1 or RQ-PO2 QL 6A or 7 Marine Engineer
- Possess a minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last 15 years;
- Extensive knowledge of marine auxiliary systems including but not limited to Plumbing/Black and Gray Water, HVAC, Hydraulic, Controls and/or Refrigeration, and/or Diesel Mechanic, Propulsion, Control and Steering Systems;
- Familiar with electrical safety standards;

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Technical Specialist with marine auxiliary, propulsion, steering, main machinery, and/or controls systems;
- Strong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of marine systems;
- Previous experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard;
- Previous experience as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager with marine auxiliary, propulsion, steering and other mechanical systems;
- Demonstrated project management experience;
- Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets;
- Familiar with certification requirements including but not limited to Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is an asset; and
