We are currently seeking a Environmental Affairs Coordinator to join our Government & Industry Relations Team

**Background**:
Mikisew Cree First Nation - Government and Industry Relations Overview

The Government Industry Relations (GIR) is a department of the Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN), located in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The GIR is directed by the MCFN Leadership and acts as a liaison between resource developers, operators, government agencies and the community.

Environmental Affairs Coordinator

**Primary Accountabilities**:

- Manages the environmental affairs of the GIR, in consultation with the Environmental Affairs Manager, and in cooperation with GIR staff as appropriate,
- Identify, secure and manage third-party consultants required to assist in developing relevant scopes of work or request for proposals for GIR environmental projects,
- Develops scopes of work with input the GIR team and obtains funding approval from respective industry or other appropriate organization,
- Ensures that the environmental concerns of the Mikisew Cree First Nation are accurately reflected and expressed in technical documents submitted to industry and/or government.
- Develops and submits funding proposal and grants in support of GIR environmental and traditional knowledge projects,
- Provides assistance to the GIR management team, including the Director, in facilitating and managing environmental aspects of agreements between the Mikisew Cree First Nation and industry,
- Identifies environmental concerns and issues of the Mikisew Cree First Nation and ensures the concerns are heard and addressed by the proponents,
- Designs and oversees data collection and analysis strategies for complex research and policy analysis; analyzes, evaluates and prepares written reports on policy implications from findings,
- Reviews and participates in technical reviews to ensure environmental and stewardship issues of Mikisew Cree First Nation are accurately reflected and expressed.

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Reviews, analyzes and prepares summaries, presentations and graphical representations of proposals and reports,
- Assists the GIR team in preparing briefing notes, internal and/or external reports, summaries, discussion papers, factsheets and other support related material,
- Communicates and engages with Leadership, MCFN Elders and community members on the status of environment and environmental issues and concerns in the region, including responsibility for:

- Providing background information and context regarding environmental issues important to the MCFN membership,
- Establishing and implementing processes and protocols within the community for access and protection of traditional environmental knowledge

**Job Knowledge and Skills**:

- Post-secondary degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resource Management or related field of study
- At least 2 years’ experience in environmental and First Nations issues, environment policy or broad-level program management, combined with considerable related experience within a local government or First Nations organization, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience,
- Project Management training and/or certification of Project Management, PMP designation is considered an asset,
- Proven experience working in and with legislation, regulations and policies that pertain directly to Environmental Assessments,
- Ability to present technical information in clear and concise manner for decision makers, Elders, Community members,
- Self-starter who has strong ability to set and achieve goals, work independently and possess a willingness to learn
- Has an understanding of Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN) culture, demonstrates cultural competency and sensitivity towards MCFN cultural traditions with the ability to use sound judgement and diplomacy in high stress/conflict situations,
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and manage shifting priorities to achieve deliverables on time, within scope and on budget,
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment,
- Valid Driver’s License.

**Job Profile Summary**

- Some evenings and weekends may be required
- Willingness and ability to travel, including travel to remote areas
- Successful Criminal Record Check
- Ability to speak/and or understand the Cree language is considered an asset

**Location**:Fort McMurray, AB (required)

**Salary**:Negotiable based on education, experience and skills

**Salary**: $50,937.85-$114,409.05 per year
