**Full-Time Life Enrichment Manager**

**SOUTHLAKE RESIDENTIAL CARE VILLAGE**

Responsible to the Executive Director; the Life Enrichment Manager oversees the Life Enrichment Department by assessing the activation needs of each resident, plans and directs the implementation and regular evaluation of the activation programs for the home, in accordance with legislative requirements and within budgetary constraints. Ensures resident safety by following established policies and procedures.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITY**
- Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the department activities. Implements and evaluates the activation programs relating to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents. Coordinates activities with those of other departments. Informs administration of departmental activities, needs and problems. Develops departmental goals and objectives.
- Selects, supervises and motivates activities staff, monitors and evaluates performance to assure a high level of productivity and the best use of capabilities, as well as to ensure the activities objectives are being met. Attempts to resolve problems with staff and refers to administration if necessary. Plans in-services and encourages staff participation in in-service education programs.
- Participates in initial assessment of residents and in Interdisciplinary Care Conferences to determine activation needs. Maintains awareness of changes in the condition or behavior of residents in order to modify programs; notifies nursing staff of observed changes. Maintains records of initial assessment and programs for each resident and reviews and updates on a regular basis.
- Communicates the activities of the department to residents, staff, families and the community to encourage participation in programs.
- Maintains a positive image of the Home through ongoing communication with the community, local media, families and volunteers.
- Coordinates and evaluates the Pastoral Care activities.
- Participates in budget preparation and is accountable for maintaining departmental budgets. Orders and maintains department supplies. Gathers information on available grants and community resources.
- Maintains established department plans, policies and procedures regarding such things as quality assurance, infection control, fire, occupational health and safety and ensures compliance by employees. Maintains departmental manuals.
- Facilitates, as assigned, Residents’ Council activities in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Participates on committee related to resident care and operation of the Home as required. Establishes and maintain communication within the department and other departments to ensure the needs of the residents are being met.
- Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, etc. in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Liaises and consults with government officials, company resources and processionals in relation to the needs of residents and department activities.
- Other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion, Degree or Diploma in Recreation or Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation or Social Services
- Previous experience in long-term care setting and knowledge of working with geriatric residents
- Ability to supervise and direct others. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. Experience in managing within a unionized setting and labor contracts are preferred.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety practices, principles and legislation.
- Ability to ready and writer English as well as to understand complex verbal and written instructions in English

WORKING CONDITIONS
Some irregular hours, evening and weekend work required. Some exposure to varying weather conditions due to travel for activities outside the Home. Frequent use of visual and auditory senses to monitor responses to activities during programs. Stress resulting from dealing with a diverse group such as residents, staff, volunteers and the community. Some stress from exposure to resident care elements. Works with sharp and hot equipment, i.e. scissors, ovens, kilns, etc.
