Ice Technician

**Job Summary** St. Paul Curling Club is seeking a highly motivated Ice Technician to ensure the delivery of exceptional ice conditions for our members and events. With 6 sheets of ice, weekly draws and scheduled bonspiels, our goal is to foster a welcoming environment for curlers of all ages and skill levels. This role is pivotal to the club's success and requires a dedicated professional with a strong understanding of ice maintenance. **Responsibilities** - **Ice Maintenance and Quality**: - Maintain ice quality and standards at all times, ensuring competitive curling conditions. - Perform daily ice and facility maintenance for all curling activities. - Install ice at the beginning of the season and remove ice at the end of the season. - Demonstrate excellent knowledge of ice maintenance and installation techniques. - All ice surfaces used for league play will be scraped before use, and during bonspiels, as time is allocated. - Garbages emptied on a regular basis, kleenex and cups replaced as needed, water bottle dispensers monitored daily - Vacuuming rugs around the ice surface once a week or more frequently, if required. - "Sharpening stones", moving and/or flipping rocks, as directed by the board. - Clear all scoreboards before all games. - Report maintenance repairs to the board. - **Equipment and Plant Management**: - Acquire and maintain a solid working knowledge of the club's ice plant. Work with the Town employees to monitor the ice plant. - Maintain all ice maintenance equipment in optimal condition. - **Strategic Club Support**: - Support the Board and the Club as a whole in achieving its operational goals. - Contribute to membership retention and growth by providing exceptional and consistent ice conditions. - Provide monthly reports to the board, presented at board meetings. - **Professional Development**: - Be willing to attend Ice Technician courses as suggested by the Board, or welcome feedback from professionals brought in by the Board. - **Record Keeping**: - Keep a detailed record of daily hours in a log book (including tasks performed), to be presented to the Board monthly. - Keep records and receipts of money spent for the maintenance of the ice. Receipts will be submitted to the treasurer weekly. - **Bonspiel Management**: - Oversee and service the following bonspiels: - Superleague Final Playdowns - Junior Bonspiel - 3 Wheeler - Ladies/Mens Combined Spiel - Seniors Bonspiels - Haying in the 30's Bonspiel **Qualifications**: - Experience as an Ice Technician, preferably in a curling club environment is an asset. - Knowledge of ice plant operations and maintenance. - Ability to maintain competitive curling standards. - Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently. - Positive attitude and a commitment to quality workmanship. - Clear and concise communication skills. - Ability to work a flexible and variable schedule, including weekends, due to the seasonal nature of the club. Hours of work will vary on demand. - Willingness to participate in training as suggested by the board. - Ability to keep accurate records. **Submission Requirements**: Applications should include: - A detailed proposal outlining the applicant's experience and qualifications. - A proposed plan for ice maintenance and quality control. - A list of any relevant certifications or training. - References. - RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check.
