**Job Summary**
Creative Kids Education Centre (CKEC) offers toddler, preschool and school age programs with a multi-level, multi-age, hands-on, play-based approach. The environment, activities, programs and interactions are a whole that shape the preschool/school age communities.
The centre has a large natural outdoor play space situated on over 4 acres of forested land.
**Must have own transportation.**
**General Accountability Statement**:
The Assistant Director will embrace the challenge of working in operations and programs that include a large school-age program, toddler program and preschool program. The Owners are responsible for hiring the Assistant Director to assist in the execution of Centre policy concerning admissions, operations, and programs.
- Responsible to support the organization’s achievement of its mission and organizational objectives through the coordination, supervision, and implementation of all aspects of the operation of the Centre and assumes sole responsibility when the Owners/Executive Director are not present including end of day closing and/or early morning opening.
- Assists with the implementation of policies, and programs related to child development and care, human resources, enrollment and finance, equipment and facilities, family and community relations, and record keeping.
- Responsible with the owners for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.
- Responsible to perform other related tasks and duties assigned by the owners/Executive Director.
- May be required to be in a classroom for ratio (ex. During lunch periods or staff absence)
- Position requires some physical lifting of children and movement of equipment etc.
- Knowledgeable of the Day Care Act, regulations and standards
**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Promote the goals and objectives of Creative Kids Education Centre to the families enrolled and the community at large. Assist with marketing initiatives including Social Media
- Support teachers and families when referrals are required to appropriate professionals and resources
- Support teachers in the completion of their classroom duties including the timely completion of tasks and reports and communicate to the Owners/Executive Director
**Program Management**:
- Support the Owners/Executive Director in the development and implementation of new program initiatives including procedural and policy initiatives
- With the Executive Director support Teachers in the implementation of the Nova Scotia Early Years Curriculum Framework
- Assist the Owners/Executive Director in implementing, achieving and maintaining the Early Years Branch initiatives including the QIG, PSF, SCCG and quality measurement directives through ongoing direction, participation and evaluation.
- Assist the Owners/Executive Director and support all staff in meeting the regulatory and quality requirements to achieve top compliance and quality ratings.
- Facilitate the management of children’s programs and routines to support the holistic development of all children
- Build meaningful relationships with the children and families
- Support the Behaviour Interventionist in arranging evaluation and programming for children with special needs
- Supervise the activities of staff to ensure that the children’s individual needs are being met by the program
- Model collaborative and cooperative attributes as a member of the Creative Kids Education Centre team with others in the Centre including the owners/Executive Director, teachers and teacher aides, supply teachers, children, volunteers, and parents, respecting each individual’s ideas, opinions and suggestions
**Staff Supervision**:
- Delegate staff duties and assist the owners in setting staff hours and submitting timesheets
- Communicate with staff, implement procedures for solving problems and respond to individual and group needs
- Act as liaison between staff and owners
- Supervise staff records to ensure accurate and timely compliance with legislation and regulation
- Communicate to staff changes in enrollment when they occur
- Communicate to staff on a daily basis parental concerns regarding children
- Maintain personnel and children’s files
- Act as a resource for and work with staff members to ensure policies, procedures and program needs are being met
- Assist, advise and evaluate practicum students (with classroom teacher)
**Health & Safety**:
- Maintain current first aid training and child CPR
- Implement monthly practice procedure for fire and other emergencies
- Assist in keeping a readily accessible and current list of contact information for parents and emergency services
- Familiarize self with all safety rules and health practices regarding the Centre and the children
- Ongoing monitoring of the facility and outdoor play spaces to ensure safe and healthy places and equipment for children
**Guidance & Behaviour Management**:
- Follow, and support staff in following, the Behaviour Management
