**Job Summary**
- Information Technology Services (ITS) is dedicated to a constructive, team-orientated environment, gathering varied perspectives, sharing knowledge, and building effective partnerships that enable our partners to achieve their goals by advising, providing solutions, and delivering service excellence in alignment with the University’s mission and goals. Reporting to the Manager, Systems Operations, the Team Lead Systems is primarily assigned to the establishment, enhancement, administration, deployment, implementation, centralized management, and maintenance of Dalhousie ITS computer operating systems, with a focus on Linux, Server Virtualisation and Storage.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct operating system maintenance for all Linux-based servers, both bare metal and virtualised. Ensure that system resources are available and in place to prevent service failures.
- Analyze issues and take immediate action to resolve system problems that occur and restore systems to service as soon as possible.
- Monitor progress for scheduled projects, provide mentoring and clarification as required to system administrators and technicians.
- In conjunction with department managers, analyze what services are or should be offered by the department. Design and propose the over-all service architecture to deliver those services.
- Regularly consult with and advise systems administrators on technical issues and preferred methodologies relating to the performance of their duties. Design and implement procedures for use by operations and support staff. Provide training in the use of these procedures.
**Note**
- The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Information Technology plus a minimum of five years’ of related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience with UNIX/LINUX operating systems, server virtualisation, storage area networks.
- Good analytical, problem solving, written and oral communications skills, as well as organizational skills.
**Assets**
- Experience with RedHat Linux, VMWare VSphere Foundations, ITSM tools, Microsoft 365 and operational on-call rotations.
