The Materials Analysis Technician provides specialized technical and engineering related analysis of various associated construction and maintenance materials for engineering design and quality control purposes and for ensuring compliance with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) specifications and industry standards.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's license or similar from another jurisdiction
- Must be able to work in a controlled laboratory environment and can be exposed to the following notable hazards as described in the Health and Safety Work Practices (noise, moving parts, hot materials, bending/lifting, carrying/twisting, hazardous material, & electrical shock etc.)
- Must be able to travel within the province to worksites by ground, water or air transportation during day and nightconditions.
- Must be able to lift minimum of 25 kg test samples as required by applicable test procedures.
- Must be able to continously stand, walk and sit
- Must be able to work overtime during weekdays, week-ends and statutory holidays as required

Qualifications:
**Essential**
- Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology or completion of Department Level 3 training courses. A combination of relevant education and extensive related experience may be considered
- Extensive knowledge and work experience with road construction materials testing in laboratory environment and hands on skill on use of directly related various material test equipment.
- Extensive knowledge about ASTM, AASHTO,CSA and MTI Standard Test Procedures applicable to road construction material testing.
- Knowledge and experience of CCIL (Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories) certification program.
- Knowledge of Department Occupational Safety, Health & Risk Management Program
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
- Excellent writing skills as related to data preparation, laboratory test reports and documentation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Software package (Word, Excel Outlook, Power Point and Teams).
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative, independence and judgement.
- Ability to train and supervise subordinate staff effectively.

**Duties**:
DutiesThe Materials Analysis Technician reports to the Senior Materials Technician and has supervisory responsibility for subordinate staff operating within the Winnipeg Central Lab’s Aggregate, Bituminous, Concrete, Soils & Geo-technical or Research sections.

The Materials Analysis Technician is responsible for independent decisions related to daily operations and for ensuring that department standards, specifications, policies, procedures and Workplace Safety and Health Acts are followed.
