_**Overview**:_

Reporting to the Director of Health and Safety, this position will be responsible for the health and safety program for Gardewine and the implementation of a sustainable safety culture. Other duties and responsibilities include:

- Lead, coach, mentor and supervise staff. Works closely to promote safe work practices, procedures, and the proper use of equipment and facilities
- Develops, implements and monitors environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and company standards and values
- Develops and implements a safety culture program to integrate Health and Safety as part of the day-to-day operations
- Implements a robust sure process to ensure cradle to grave management of hazardous materials used on site; including procurement, receipt, use, transport and disposal
- Guides the leadership team in formulating and executing company practices as they related to health and safety performance
- Ensures driver compliance with D.O.T. regulations and confirm driver file maintenance is up-to-date
- Ensure fleet compliance including, licensing, permit hours of service requirements are respected
- Identifies and addresses site Health and Safety issues and employee concerns
- Oversees/performs accident management activities including industrial management investigation and associated recordkeeping
- Investigate and determine cause for all road accidents
- Determine remedial action required on accidents including retraining, coaching and/or discipline
- Identifies and assists in the implementation and tracking of corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Oversees/performs Health and Safety hazard assessments including industrial hygiene monitoring and makes recommendations to control hazards
- Manages safety, fire and property risk management programs
- Leads the team in the development of appropriate emergency plans and response capabilities
- Maintains availability to respond to emergencies during off-hours (evenings, weekends and holidays)
- Stays abreast of new Health and Safety government regulations, as well as new developments in the industry for best practices
- Builds relationships with key departments to foster support for Health and Safety programs
- **Skills and Experience**:_
- A degree/diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution or a suitable combination of experience and training
- Five years of relevant work experience, or transferrable experience from other similar business models or other high-performance organizations may be considered
- Leadership aptitude
- Supervisory experience is an asset
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Analytical. Creative problem solver
- Capable of adapting to new situations and new learning opportunities
- Works well in fast paced, team environment
- High level of competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with the ability to quickly master industry specific software systems
- Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills
- Good lateral thinker, creative, imaginative, “outside the box”
- Strong business ethics with a professional approach at all times
- Demonstrated safety leadership mindset and ability to comply with the company’s Health and Safety requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Available for travel

Pay: $48,152.26-$104,233.11 per year
