Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP) is looking for an experienced Security Officer with a valid BC Security Worker’s License to perform your skills at our serene location (4464 Markham Road, conveniently located 15 minutes from Downtown Victoria or from the Saanich Peninsula). Given our location and clientele at VITP, security concerns and incidents handled by our security team are typically more subdued than one might experience in a downtown or retail environment. We oversee a variety of real estate holdings in Victoria on behalf of our client The University of Victoria (UVic), including Vancouver Island Technology Park, the Marine Technology Centre and the Queenswood Oceans and Climate property. UVic Properties does not oversee operations on UVic campus. Your shift will consist of time in the state-of-the-art command centre with two opportunities to walk the areas completing a tactical route each time. **VITP Security Team members are accountable for, but not limited to**: - Serve as one of the main "faces of VITP" and positively provide information to tenants, clients, contractors, and guests when approached. - Possess outstanding customer service skills to interact with tenants, their employees and the public with care, ease and professionalism. **Facility/Security Duties**: - Full-time security guards are scheduled 4 days on / 4 days off pattern. Each 4-day set of shifts will alternate between evenings (3pm to 11pm) and graveyards (11pm to 7am) If you are available, we sometimes have extra shifts available as well. - Maintain facility security utilizing monitoring systems, foot patrols, access cards, permitting building access, proper issuance / return of keys and keeping a pulse on everything that is happening during the shift - Accurately write daily shift reports, Incident Reports and log all common area problems and unusual occurrences - Ensure that all means of egress involved with fire exits are unobstructed - Familiarization with emergency procedures concerning injury and illness - Escort the public, tenants and employees between VITP buildings and parking lots as requested or required to ensure their safety - Act as part of UVic Properties on-site Health and Safety Designates **The individual will be required to handle the following**: - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. - Knowledge of basic business equipment, i.e., computers, copier, printers, radio etc. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**: - Basic Security Training License (required) - First-Aid Certificate Level C (OFA Level 1 required) - Excellent communication skills, must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English - Be able to multi-task and handle multiple event coordination requests - Maintain poise and self-control under stress - Ability to work independently with little or no supervision - Be physically fit to conduct internal and external patrols in all weather conditions and be able to comfortably use stairwells - Ability to maintain current and accurate records **Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent **Salary**: $20.75-$21.41 per hour **Benefits**: - Company events - Dental care - Employee assistance program - Extended health care - On-site gym - On-site parking - Paid time off - Vision care Flexible Language Requirement: - French not required Schedule: - 8 hour shift Supplemental pay types: - Overtime pay Application question(s): - Do you live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada?
