CBC/Radio-Canada is currently seeking a Vice-President, People & Culture (VP). Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Vice-President, People & Culture is responsible for developing and implementing the people and culture strategy for the Corporation. Providing strategic insights to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board, the VP ensures that the employee experience is central in all planning and decision-making across the organization. With a team of six direct reports and over 200 staff, the VP leads an HR team to deliver comprehensive HR programs and services corporate-wide, optimize employee relations, and foster a safe, healthy, positive, and productive work environment.
This position can be located in Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal.
Principal Responsibilities- Develop a strategic vision and drive large-scale cross-functional transformation.- Lead strategic insight, planning, and opportunities for growth while ensuring budget and corporate objectives are met.- Attract, engage and develop team members to achieve corporate goals.- Foster a creative environment among internal and external resources.- Collaborate with senior executives to advance the organization's mandate - including equity and inclusion, environmental sustainability, accessibility.- Keep the CEO and Board of Directors informed about operational issues.
Role-Specific Responsibilities- Engage stakeholders with a clear communication strategy to mobilize teams for the strategic plan.- Lead HR and industrial relations strategies at CBC/Radio-Canada, modernizing P&C components for efficiency.- Advise the CEO on organizational development, including operating models, structure, and talent assessment.- Embed equity, diversity, and inclusion principles across the organization.- Maintain productive union relationships, oversee collective bargaining, and resolve HR legal issues.- Oversee HRM policies, practices, and services across the organization in collaboration with businesses.- Support the Chair of the Committee, the Board’s HR and Governance Committee, and manage the Pension Fund relationship.- Manage development and training throughout the Corporation.- Identify and address reputational risks related to P&C, including morale, recruitment, and retention.- Manage the P&C department’s operating and capital budgets and expenditures.
Experience and Qualifications- Fifteen years of experience in HR leadership positions of increasing scope and responsibility.- Previous experience in an organization of similar scale and complexity, in a unionized environment, and ideally working in a wide geographical area.- Proven ability to work effectively and proactively with a CEO and other members of the leadership team as a key partner.- Experience managing operations across a wide geographical area and multiple stakeholders.- Experience in talent management/compensation system design, an asset.- Experience playing a decisive role in high-stakes decision-making.- Experience in developing a vision and strategy (in the private or public sector), organizational/financial restructuring, optimizing processes, and leading change.- Experience on a board of directors.- Experience in broadcasting, media, digital technology (multiplatform, digital product, ecommerce), telecom, entertainment, or other highly regulated and/or analogous industries preferred.- Experience managing remote teams.- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or other related disciplines.- Knowledge of HR fundamentals (e.g., labour relations, harassment, compensation, benefits, pension, EDI, etc.).- This role requires an appreciation of Canada’s cultural diversity.
