**Position Summary**
Under the direction of the Manager of Quality Care and Vocational Development, the Recreational Counsellor is responsible for assisting in the research, planning, development, and facilitation of inclusive, community-based leisure and recreational programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
**Role & Responsibilities**:

- Assist in the identification of individual’s needs, abilities, strengths, and interests as they relate to leisure and recreational activities
- Research, plan, develop and facilitate community-based leisure and recreational programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities
- Assist in the development of assessment protocols for ongoing evaluation of leisure and recreational activities implements
- Evaluate activities based on established assessment protocols
- Help enrich the recreational experiences for participants
- Understand barriers experienced by clients and problem-solve to overcome them
- Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe manner
- Ensure all activities align with DASCH’s vision, mission, and values
- Promote all recreational activities through a variety of mediums
- Encourage the participation of all individuals who attend recreational activities.
- Collect, evaluate and provide statistical reporting.
- All staff are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that fosters a spirit of cooperation and teamwork at all times
- Serve as a positive role model for staff, individuals, and the community
- Work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors
- Contribute to staff meetings, provide ideas for activities, address concerns, and provide solutions
- Maintain confidentiality, respecting the privacy of each individual and DASCH operations when discussing your work, in accordance with the DASCH code of confidentiality
- Interact with individuals, families, co-workers, and supervisors in an approachable and respectful manner
- Strive for a positive attitude that promotes this line of work as a professional career choice
- Be flexible and open to new ideas, responsibilities, and operational changes
- Be resourceful and creative, and possess physical and emotional stamina
- Acts consistently in the workplace according to basic values of honesty and openness
- Direct contact with the general public, clients, program staff, community professionals, and business persons. Off-site travel for short and/or extended periods of time as required to perform job duties. Interaction with clients with behavioral, emotional, and physical challenges.

**Skills & Qualifications**:

- Qualifications include:

- Strong knowledge of intellectual disabilities and experience working in the field is an asset
- Exceptional communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a busy and dynamic environment
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License with access to a vehicle
- The job requires extended periods (4 or more hours) of sitting, standing, and walking that may occur throughout the course of the regular work schedule.

**Work Hours**:

- Full Time - Term
- Hours will be assigned to you within core working hours
- Must be able to flex work hours into the evenings and weekends based on position needs

**Wage**: $12.50 per hour
