The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the talented team at the Alberta Geological Survey (AGS). At the AGS, we are responsible for characterizing Alberta’s subsurface geology as part of our 3D Geological Framework of Alberta project. What your day-to-day will look like:
- Assist geologists with merging data from various data sources, building models, and presenting data in the form of notebooks and dashboards.-
- Work closely with geologists and data scientists to enhance utilization of the geological framework and improve the characterization of data in 3D space.

What we’re looking for in you:
- Currently enrolled in the third or fourth year of a Bachelor's Program in Geology, Geophysics, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.- Demonstrable coding skills (e.g., GitHub portfolio) are strongly preferred.- Ability to work in a team environment.- Highly motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.

Additional Information:
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.- A Pre-placement Medical and a fully valid Class 5 driver’s license, along with a positive driving record, are required due to the field component of this role.- First Aid and H2S Alive training is required and will be provided. This role may involve occasional travel, including site visits, and teambuilding activities.- Should an individual with the required qualifications not be available, applicants with closely related qualifications may be considered. As a result, the position may be redesigned and/or reclassified.-
