Facilities - Caretaking includes all cleaning and facility operation positions that work in schools and administrative buildings.
**Additional Information**:
The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.
**Position Description**:
**purpose**
Reporting to the Director, Facility Operations the purpose of this position is to provide contract and in-house custodial and maintenance facility operation services, which optimize the quality teaching and learning environments within schools. The Facilities Team Leader (FTL) demonstrates effective asset management in approximately 55 CBE schools and facilities within an Area. The FTL provides leadership and direction to a minimum of 2 supervisors, and approximately 12 tradespersons as well as managing service level agreements and contracts.
This position has responsibility for delivering timely, efficient and cost effective services, within an annual budget of approximately $17 million. The FTL acts as the primary liaison between the Area Director, School Administrators and the Facilities and Environmental Services (FES) Service Unit. The FTL ensures the Director, Facility Operations is kept informed of all significant school issues, assists schools with facilities related projects and undertakes community liaison activities.

This position is accountable for:
- Effective development and sustainability of service delivery standards for custodial and maintenance operations to ensure that schools and facilities are safe, clean and well maintained.
- Optimization of computerised maintenance system, work order priority, completion, processes and reports within the area(s).
- Managing, inspecting and approving services provided by external contractors and developing scopes of work for facility projects.
- Ensuring that employee activities and projects adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Code, all other applicable legislation and CBE standards.
- Providing effective, collaborative and proactive leadership.
- Building a shared vision for the provision of quality facility services to students, staff, parents and the community at large.
- Implementing change in conjunction with FES leadership and in keeping with the CBE’s purpose, mission and values.
**major responsibilities**
- In conjunction with the Area Facility Operations Supervisor(s) and area trades employees, ensures that CBE operating standards for custodial and maintenance services are achieved, and that daily facility operations are managed in an efficient, reliable, safe and secure manner.
- Manages work orders to deliver the full scope of day to day maintenance services. Provides job briefings, supervises work in progress by ensuring that work teams have all necessary equipment, supplies and materials to perform their work.
- Inspects completed work to ensure appropriate standards and quantity of work.
- Utilizing integrated work management software, monitors and reports on work order completion and deferral. Prepares and submits production, progress, labour and other reports as required.
- Prepares clear, concise scope of work documents, RFP’s and tender documents in accordance with CBE purchasing policies and practices.
- Manages awarded projects and other external maintenance contracts following recognized project management procedures and service level agreements.
- Proactively communicates with stakeholders. Monitors and manages the financial aspects of the contracts and the contractor’s performance.
- Implements corrective strategies, as required, to ensure the timely delivery of projects within budget. Follows up on contractors deficiencies and working with purchasing services takes appropriate action to remediate concerns related to external contracts.
- Conducts facility audits and inspections, prepares reports and recommendations.
- Conducts regularly scheduled assessment of maintenance services and processes to ensure that efficiencies are optimized, that continuous improvement is achieved and that customer service reflects the needs of the learning environment. Initiates changes to work procedures, materials used and contract services to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
