**Job Summary**: The Environmental Technician works closely with the Ecosystem Service management team to provide professional and consistent Environmental Monitoring and ecological assessment services to a range of clients. Based out of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation community in North Vancouver BC, the Environmental Technician will provide services for projects on and off Reserve lands. Lead by the Environmental Project Manager, the Environmental Technician team will be supervised by the Field Project Coordinator. Working primarily outdoors, the Environmental Technician role will include some office-based time each week to compile reports.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Supporting Environmental Monitoring and Ecological Restoration projects in the field, independently or as a member of a work team
- Reviewing reports about environmental issues for a specific site
- Collecting water samples
- Monitoring erosion and sediments
- Install erosion and sediment control materials
- Ensuring proper cleanup of contaminants (e.g., fuel)
- Recording observations from samples and sites accurately
- Creating reports based on sampling and observation records
- Reading maps and plans to navigate varied work sites
- Identifying and locating environmental features of work sites
- Reporting on monitoring activities
- Assisting with the operation and maintenance of equipment, including field and monitoring equipment
- Communicating effectively with project team members

**Qualifications and Skills**:
Education/Experience:

- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Post-secondary training in a related field (e.g. Environmental Science, Ecological Restoration, Forestry)
- Proven experience with outdoor work preferred, but not essential (training provided)
- Level 1 First Aid preferred, but not essential (training provided)
- Experience working in a team environment, especially in a physical outdoor industry is an asset
- Excellent communication skills, with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes
- Interest in First Nations cultural and environmental values and stewardship is essential; past work with First Nations is considered a definite asset

Technical Skills:

- Strong planning and organizational skills, detail-oriented
- Proven track record for reporting for work on time with Personal Protective Equipment preferred
- Experience using Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
- Valid driver’s license preferred, but not essential

**Working Conditions**:

- Physical Conditions:_
- Extensive outdoor work in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and heat.
- Frequent walking, standing, and navigating uneven terrain at work sites.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of field equipment, materials, or samples.
- Possible exposure to contaminants (e.g., fuel) requiring proper handling and cleanup.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as boots, gloves, and safety gear.
- Mental Conditions:_
- Attention to detail required for accurate field observations and reporting.
- Ability to focus and remain organized while handling multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Critical thinking skills needed to assess environmental conditions and recommend appropriate actions.
- Must remain calm and professional while addressing unexpected challenges in the field.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and report findings.
- Environmental Conditions:_
- Work is primarily outdoors, often in remote or rugged locations.
- Exposure to natural elements such as rain, wind, extreme temperatures, and wildlife.
- Potential for working near bodies of water, construction sites, or contaminated areas.
- Office-based work required for report writing but limited compared to fieldwork.
- Possible travel to various project sites, including both on and off Reserve lands.
