**HELP WANTED - Supportive Roommate**
Through the Integrated Living Services program, funded by PDD, we match adults living with developmental disabilities with individuals and families in the Calgary community.
Are you looking for a full-time role as a Supportive Roommate? Client is seeking an outgoing and active individual or couple who are willing to open their home to an individual with a developmental disability.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The DDRC is looking for passionate, driven individuals who live our values and can work independently.
As Integrated Living Practitioner (ILP), you will be responsible for maintaining and promoting the well-being, uniqueness and independence of each client, encouraging clients to develop individual skills, talents and abilities while maintaining their health and safety requirements. This may include but is not limited to providing physical care, menu planning and meal preparation, medication administration, day-to-day house management and documentation.
**CRITERIA**:
- Support will be tailored to the individual's needs and interests, with a focus on inclusion, recreation, and personal growth
- Provide Support with daily living skills, client's personal goals, grocery shopping, attending community activities, walks, and assist with development and maintenance of interpersonal relationships
- Support with booking and maintaining Access rides to align with programing and holiday closures
- Able to support with scheduling and attending medial appointments
- Looking for an adult home where no children reside permanently
- Applicant must make this as their full-time role or work from home in a role that allows them the flexibility to provide support during the day, evening and weekends, as needed for various reasons (e.g. sick, appointments, etc.)
- Familiarity with Calgary's community resources and recreational opportunities
- Residing in a safe community/neighborhood within Calgary city limits, south location preferred
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Supports, or similar behavioural programs
- Knowledge of mental health concerns
- Willingness to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including health professionals, program managers, and other support networks, to ensure consistent and well-rounded support
- Someone who leads an active lifestyle and is enthusiastic about including others in physical activities such as walking, swimming, biking, and going to the gym
- Ready to include an individual with a developmental disability into their home and family, and abide by the DDRC's standards of care
- A private living arrangement for the individual is required: a separate bedroom is essential, and having a bathroom and living area is a strong asset
- Ability to converse with the client fluently in English
**WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE**:
- Disabilities studies certificate/diploma or similar education or equivalent experience, with a minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma
- Have current or will enroll in mandatory training including Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C, Verbal Intervention (NVCI), Medication Administration
- Experience supporting individuals with behaviours of concern
- Able to foster healthy relationships and maintain consistent boundaries
- Professional and excellent communication both written and verbal, with the ability to be articulate, clear and precise
