**Title: Youth Programs Facilitator**

**Reports to: Youth Programs Manager**

**Hours: On-call position, $20/hr**

**Location: The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland**

**The Confluence is recruiting for 1 Youth Program Facilitator **to help support the Youth Learning team with gaps in the schedule. This exciting role will guide educational experiences for students by providing knowledgeable instruction of multidisciplinary programs rooted in history and social studies. This role will provide lively and reflective interpretation through workshops, hands-on activities and tours for school groups and support informal learning programs such as day camps. The Education Team is working with Indigenous advisors towards decolonizing and refocusing the youth programming at The Confluence as a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.

**What will you do?**
- Deliver educational lessons, activities, tours, and field trips for grades K-12 at The Confluence.
- Discuss the complex history of The Confluence in an age-appropriate way.
- Conduct lively and reflective interpretive programs for diverse audiences at the site (indoor and outdoor).
- Demonstrate the proper care and handling of artifacts.
- Provide feedback and input for programs to the Youth Programs Manager.
- Utilize current interpretive and teaching techniques to best capture and keep an audience’s attention, especially participatory and inquiry-based learning.
- Support Evening Youth Programs as needed.

**What do you need to succeed?**
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and desire to work with school-aged children.
- Experience in a related field (education, museum studies, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse audience in a friendly and open manner, while conveying information.
- Strong oral communication skills and the ability to be responsive to questions and comments.
- Strong ability to manage stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- Experience leading informal learning programs for K-12 audiences in a museum or interpretive centre is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Alberta K-12 curriculum is considered an asset.
- Open weekday availability between 9am-3pm, Monday to Friday. Opportunity for occasional evening shifts. (Shifts are dependent on bookings).

- $20 per hour
- Free parking on site

The confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers has been a place of significance to Indigenous peoples long before 1875, when the North-West Mounted Police established a site of colonial occupation called Fort Calgary and prepared the way for a new settler-colonial community.
