Position Overview:
NWLRC is seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist to lead our Northwest Youth United project. The role involves coordinating multiple 12-week cycles of activities focused on equipping young people with essential life skills and fostering personal growth for a successful future. The Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist will play a crucial role in pairing mentors with youth participants, collaborating with local schools, and working alongside emergency response services to prevent participation of youth in violence and gang
- related activities.

Report to:
The Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist will be an employee of Northwest London Resource Centre (NWLRC). Day-to-Day supervision/consultation will be provided by the Youth Services at Northwest London Resource Centre both formally and informally as determined by the project.

Qualifications:
Social Service Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker, or education or work experience related to social services field of expertise. Extensive experience of over 3 years actively working in youth outreach and prevention programs is an asset.

Commitment:
This is a full-time position for 37.5 hrs/week that incorporates service delivery reflective of youth peek program times for participation. Occasional Saturday is preset. Work schedules are planned in three month blocks.

Wages:
$27 per hour with benefits after 3-month probation period.

**Responsibilities**:
Cycle Coordination:

- Plan and coordinate each 12-week cycle of Northwest Youth United Program.
- Design and implement a diverse range of activities that promote personal growth and essential life skills.

Mentorship Pairing:

- Facilitate the pairing of mentors with youth participants to build trusting relationships.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to mentors and participants throughout the program.

Collaboration with Local Schools:

- Work closely with local schools, including Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School and Wilfrid Jury Elementary School.
- Ensure proper referrals to the program through collaboration and strong communication between school staff and the Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist.

Collaboration with London Police Services:

- Collaborate with the Diversity team at London Police Services.
- Align conflict resolution and violence prevention workshops with community safety initiatives to reduce the risk of youth involvement in criminal activities.

Youth Support Networks:

- Collaborate with organizations providing counseling and mental health services.
- Ensure young people have access to a comprehensive support system addressing their specific needs.

Identifying High-Risk Youth:

- Work directly with local schools to identify youth at high risk of exposure to and access of guns and gangs.
- Implement a unique version of the NWLRC YEP program with a peer mentorship component.

Outreach and Information Dissemination:

- Be present at each school once a week to effectively reach and support the youth population.
- Provide information to school staff and youth about the Northwest Youth United Program.

Staff and Project leadership
- Lead and direct the responsibilities of the Youth Outreach assistant
- Lead and direct the completion of the project criteria
- Manager the project Budget

Qualifications:

- Leadership, strong organizational, and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with report writing, maintaining statistics, and fundraising
- Capacity to build relationships with youth, parents, community members, and professionals
- Proven ability to work with youth of diverse and ethnic/cultural backgrounds
- Motivated, self-starter and able to work in a flexible environment that puts client’s first
- Capacity to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency with Microsoft office, Google Forms, and database entry
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Clearance through a Vulnerable populations police screening process
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification)
- Experience in program development and implementation.
- Valid Driver’s license with access to a car
- Must have a registered Social Insurance Number and eligible to work in Canada.
