**The opportunity**:
The Program Coordinator for Post-Secondary Club (PSC) will take lead on planning, facilitating and promoting the Post-Secondary Club programming within the ISRCR. They will work in conjunction with the existing ISRCR team to represent the University of Manitoba/ISRCR at off campus and on-campus student recruitment functions. They will also work and collaborate with local high schools that are part of the PSC programming.
In consultation with the Director, the Program Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and execute all related programming activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, presentations, community, cultural and academic related programming, sharing admission requirements and administrative processes. The Program Coordinator is charged with delivering informational, promotional, and inspirational messaging through a variety of mediums, designed to facilitate and increase Indigenous student recruitment. The Program Coordinator will also assist the Student Recruitment and Admissions offices in supplying information and service to prospective and current applicants as they progress from recruited applicants to registered students. They will work closely and collaboratively with the Indigenous staff and programs on campus, the other Student Recruitment Officers of the Office of the Registrar and Enrolment Services, and the Indigenous Student Recruitment and Community Relations team.
The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for growing the Post-Secondary Club programming to other schools within the city. This will require regular visits, communication, and outreach at the administrative level within high schools looking to come on board.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Communications, Social Sciences or helping profession).
- Minimum one year of related experience required.
- Personal experience as an Indigenous student attending a post-secondary institution in an urban setting is required.
- Experience, knowledge, and competency with Indigenous cultures, history and community protocols required.
- Knowledge of Indigenous politics as they relate to education required.
- Significant public speaking experience and/or ability required.
- Experience working with students in the post-secondary or public school system required.
- Public relations, communications and/or marketing experience preferred.
- 3 or more years of experience working in a First Nation or Metis community or organization an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- High degree of computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint required.
- Must have the ability to quickly establish a strong and personal rapport with Indigenous contacts in the community.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written required.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to able to clearly project voice and to hold audiences' attention.
- Must be able to speak for long periods without tiring or losing enthusiasm.
- Must have an innovative and flexible approach to problem-solving.
- Must be an empathetic and careful listener.
- Must be very reliable and self-motivated, and able to work independently without supervision when necessary.
- Must be a great team player.
- Must have physical stamina and be able to stand for lengthy periods.
- Must be able to lift heavy boxes (up to 20 kg each) and display units.
- Ability to conceive, develop, plan, and execute complex projects with limited supervision required.
- Ability to learn quickly and retain new knowledge required.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, Elders, alumni, Indigenous communities, community organizations, and the public, is required.
- Ability to be proactive in learning and furthering common goals of the office required.
