Safety Advisor

**JOB PURPOSE**: The Safety Advisor supervises the day-to-day operations of the health & safety program. Ensures compliance with federal, provincial and local regulations as well as company policy
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Provides support to all aspects of the safety program. This includes coaching, mentoring employees and managers to ensure all safety expectations are understood and met
Assist Site Manager in accident investigation, analysis and determination of cause, WC claims, investigation, analysis and claims including modified duties program
Oversees the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Ensures committee meets its responsibilities under the Workers’ Compensation Act including annual training, and that all documentation is completed
Schedules and supports first aid attendants. Tracks certification in accordance with Regulations. Arranges for recertification as required
Monitor location maintenance of records regarding completed training, licenses, driver's abstracts, attendance of safety meetings
Tracks and performs annual WHMIS training and ensures Safety Data Sheets are current. Tracks forklift certification for maintenance employees
Assists with route reviews and driver safety issues, identifying driver training needs
Ensure records on safety and safety related matters are up to date and accurate though annual internal safety audits
Knowledgeable in and enforces Occupational Health and Safety regulations, company and site policies relating to safety and safe driving requirements
Assists in conducting premise inspections
Conduct safety inspections and make recommendations for both ongoing safety efforts and efforts to increase safety awareness and profile
Conduct COVID contact tracing
Performs other related duties as required
**MINIMUM EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS**:
High school diploma or equivalent
CSTS, Valid Emergency First Aid
NCSO
**EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED**:
5-8 years’ experience in a safety and training capacity, previous experience in transportation an asset
Computer literate with strong working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, multi-task and manage time effectively
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials and general public
Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Fluent in English
Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
