**Key Responsibilities**:

- Build and maintain effective working relationships with billing lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants, and external clients, responding promptly and professionally to billing-related queries.
- Prepare, print, and post client bills accurately and in a timely manner - monthly, quarterly, or on request.
- Monitor specific clients and/or matters with Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs), ensuring that special rates, discounts, and billing instructions are applied correctly.
- Maintain accurate billing records and respond to day-to-day requests from legal teams, including updates to client profiles, matter details, billing rates, and special instructions.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding departmental processes and procedures with clarity and professionalism.
- Provide backup support across the accounting department during staff absences or peak periods, contributing to smooth operations.

**Education/ Experience, and Key Competencies**:

- Post-secondary education or a diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in billing, collections, client service, or accounts receivable—preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Exposure to legal accounting/practice management systems (e.g., Aderant) is an asset.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills with tact and professionalism when dealing with internal teams and external clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a motivated, proactive team player.
- High level of discretion and commitment to confidentiality.
- Familiarity with legal billing guidelines and compliance requirements (e.g., LEDES formats, UTBMS codes) is an asset.
