**Job Title: Intermediate Biologist / Environmental Scientist (Wildlife)**

**Employment: Full-Time / Permanent**

**Roles and responsibilities include**

  • Design, plan, and implement field programs, including wildlife assessments conducted in a safe, efficient, and technically sound manner;
  • Lead wildlife management efforts, including mitigating risks and interfacing with regulatory agencies;
  • Lead field crews ensuring safety and mentorship of junior staff, and manage clients’ environmental contractors/consultants as required;
  • Provide regulatory leadership for incidents, including tracking, reporting, and liaising with regulators;
  • Conduct and coordinate inspections, investigations, and site visits to ensure regulatory compliance and address potential non-compliance issues;
  • Develop, update, and facilitate environmental training programs for internal teams and operational staff;
  • Manage and analyze field data, including collection and QA/QC processes, and submit required reports to meet regulatory requirements;
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to address environmental risks and continuously improve regulatory and environmental performance;
  • Track and manage environmental and regulatory performance measures;
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly (written and oral) to convey environmental considerations and results to clients;
  • Collaborate with teammates, clients’ teams, operational staff, and other stakeholders;
  • Support, and in some cases lead, business development efforts through formal (e.g., proposal writing) and informal (e.g., networking events) avenues;
  • Maintain technical skills through formal and on-the-job opportunities; and
  • Work independently, often outside of office hours, to meet challenging deadlines and client requests.

**Specific skills and requirements we are looking for include**

  • Minimum of B. Sc. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline;
  • Registered, or working towards registering as a Professional Biologist in Alberta and/or BC is preferred;
  • Three to five years of relevant industry environmental experience, consulting experience preferred;
  • Solid bird identification and wildlife assessment skills, and a desire to continue to learn;
  • A self-starter who thrives in a demanding environment working both as part of a team and independently, and a willingness to go the extra mile;
  • Great communication skills and strong technical writing skills;
  • Strong experience and knowledge of oil sands and industrial operations will be considered an asset;
  • Experience providing guidance to management and/or operations personnel;
  • Existing applicable technical and safety training certifications will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to learn new technology (and have fun while doing so);
  • Working knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation and policies;
  • Ability to work remotely for extended periods;
  • A desire to get hands dirty in the field;
  • Ability to prioritize competing initiatives, anticipate potential problems and deal with ambiguity;
  • A strong track record in health and safety;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license, a clean driving record and minimum 3 years auto insurance history;
  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong sense of accountability; and
  • An entrepreneurial spirit.

**Safety Requirement**

This role is considered safety-sensitive and will require the submission or a drivers abstract and a claims experience letter for proof of driving history, as well as the successful completion of drug screenings at various times during employment.
