The Custodian/Duty Person is, as part of a supportive team, responsible for the custodial cleaning care of the church buildings. Hours are on an on-call basis primarily for evenings, weekends and vacation /illness relief (approx. 10 to 25 hours per week).

Our Church: St. Andrew’s is a large vibrant church in the heart of downtown Kitchener (54 Queen St. N.). It employs a small complement of custodial staff. This position supports groups meeting at the church as well as integrates both knowledge of, and appreciation for the cleaning requirements of the buildings and the ability to take part in maintenance and cleaning operations to ensure the vitality of the physical plant of the church.

Functional Responsibilities:

- Ensure safety and security on church properties and for a safe work environment
- Interior cleaning, lawn care and snow removal pertaining to all church properties
- Opening and closing of the church building and interior rooms as required, ensure that the church facilities are properly prepared for the various functions including room set-up
- Fill out and maintain building log book after each shift
- Completion of washroom logs as needed
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Must be fully vaccinated and be prepared to wear a mask for Covid when in the building
- Demonstrated solid interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with others including staff members, colleagues, superiors, and volunteer leaders within the church
- Physically able to handle some demanding tasks in and around the church
- Proved General and/or specific knowledge of cleaning procedures
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Provide an acceptable recent Police Records Check
- Willingness to learn various skills, as required from time to time
- Familiarity, understanding and respect for the functionality of a large, vibrant, growing church
