Position Overview
To plan, develop, implement & evaluate Health Promotion programs and participate in the development of plans for other programs and projects that promote awareness and healthy life style behavior changes.
**Responsibilities**:
**Program Development/Project Management**:
- Develop education/promotional programs and policies relevant to the issues of the community
- Select, develop and evaluate health education resources for inclusion in health promotion programs
- Implement the Health Promotion programs as assigned
- Deliver community-based programs targeted to the specific needs of the community and supports community initiated programs
- Develop and disseminate health promotion resources including posters, pamphlets, displays, banners
- Developing annual program-specific operational plans and budgets
- Provide guidance, instruction and direction to Project Team for Healthy Happenings, Students, Lambton County Student Wellness Committee and school councils, Project Team for Closing the Gaps for Youth Pilot Project in Alexander Mackenzie, Facilitator for Stop Smoking Support Group, Coordinator; Lambton Safe Community Council; all community committees; students
**Community Liaison Work**:
- Establish and maintain liaison with community groups through project and committee work relevant to the health needs of the community
- Provide consultation to health unit staff and external agency personnel
- Provide consultation to agencies on the development of health promotion guidelines such non-smoking, nutrition, physical activity, etc.
- Provide information and advisory services to the public in response to local needs
- Conduct presentations, workshops and in-service education for health unit staff, staff of other agencies and community groups
**Research & Writing**:
- Interpret current scientific information regarding Healthy Promotion programming
- Collect and analyze data and summarize results in a final publication
- Survey target populations regarding their needs - use health promotion theory to develop programs and resources (i.e. diffusion theory, stages of change theory)
- Create tools for qualitative and quantitative research (Healthy Happenings, Closing the Gaps, College Campus Survey, Risk Watch, and Stop Smoking Program)
- Write technical reports (i.e. Lambton’s Smoke-Free By-Law)
**Policy Development**:
- Work with outside agencies and municipal partners to set policies/by-laws
- Implement local advocacy activities that support provincial legislation
- Assist national groups with health advocacy efforts at the local level
- Assist community committees and business to develop policies
- Work with municipal planners on infrastructure development to promote active living and active transportation
**General**:
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum Formal Education**:
- 4 year University degree in Health or Social Sciences
**Experience**:
- Three to four years of experience is required
- Previous experience in community health programs and government organizations
A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
