**ROLE OVERVIEW**

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager/Program Director, the Dialysis Attendant is responsible for supporting the Clinical and Technical Teams by assisting with various tasks to support seamless unit operations and enhanced patient care. Tasks include, but are not limited to, setting up and dismantling of dialysis treatment supplies and machines, monitoring of the water room, cleaning of the patient environment post dialysis treatment in accordance with infection control protocols, working with materials management to ensure adequate inventory and assisting the clinical team by supporting patients. The DA must work independently and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team at NHH and with members of the Regional Renal Program.

**QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS**
- Dialysis Assistant Certificate Program from a recognized College required
- Previous experience in a Dialysis Attendant role within last 2 years required
- Knowledge and experience with medical supplies/equipment in a patient care environment required
- Demonstrates the principles of effective teamwork and an ability to communicate and work cooperatively with members of the healthcare team, patients, and their families
- Demonstrates solid written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits effective organizational and time management skills, demonstrating an ability to problem solve and uses good judgement to make decisions
- Proficient with basic computer skills; EPIC experience an asset
- Ability to follow occupational health and safety policies, applicable clinical policies and completes mandatory education as assigned.

**PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Requires fine motor skills for equipment set-up
- Must be physically capable of lifting and handling heavy equipment and supplies, while adhering to the principles of occupational health and safety
- Position requires bending, twisting, standing and sitting

**EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS**

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
