**BC Settlement and Integration Program (BCSIS)
**POSITION**: Employment Specialist
**DEPARTMENT**:Family and Settlement Services
**POSITION FUNCTION**:
Under the supervision of the Manager of BC Settlement and Integration Services, this position
is responsible for providing a wide range of services including case management, facilitation,
and job recruitment.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Degree, certificate or diploma in Social Services, Marketing, Education, or Business
Management or High school graduation with appropriate combination of courses in social
services, education, and business management. Career Development Practitioner Certificate is
an asset.
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check required
**DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Have a working knowledge of newcomer experiences in Canada, especially refugees and
refugee claimants, International Students, and Temporary Foreign Workers
- Understand social justice issues in a community setting
- Knowledge of program activities and services, local labour market conditions, employer
relations, immigrant and refugee settlement issues and needs, standard office equipment
- Have a working knowledge of resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, and job search
- Working knowledge of MS Office suite, publishing software, database(s)***
- Strong English communication skills, other languages an asset***
- Cultural sensitivity; able to work with diverse groups***
- Management and presentation skills***
- Flexible, organized, and able to set priorities and meet deadlines***
**KEY RESPONSIBILITES**:
- Identify trends and opportunities in the labour market and current business sector protocols
and procedures
- Assisting clients with resume and cover letter writing, interview skills and job search skills
- Facilitate engagement of employers for events (e.g., job fairs, employer hiring event,
industry presentations, etc.)

**BC Settlement and Integration Program (BCSIS)**:
- Maintain a working knowledge of local employment opportunities,
- Regularly inform coordinator or manager of participant progress and achievement of outcomes
- Engage in placement activities such as cold calling, follow-up on job leads, gathering job
postings, communication of opportunities to staff and clients, and securing paid and unpaid
work experiences
- Organize and deliver group sessions and workshops as necessary
- Marketing clients for employment, engagement employers, and arranging and monitoring work
experience, and working with employment programs
- Other duties, as assigned by the program coordinator or manager
**HOURS**: 35 hours per week
**STARTING PAY**: $26 - $29.30 per hour
A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length which
offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
