Refining Team Leader

SUMMARY
The Refining Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day activities related to the unloading of raw sugar, the cleaning of common areas (locker rooms, washrooms, cafeteria), as well as cleaning operations on the walls and structure of the refinery. This includes planning, strategizing and administrative duties, as well as hands-on involvement in employee supervision, quality inspections, safety, training and system and equipment troubleshooting. The incumbent ensures that fundamental tasks designated by the Superintendent are carried out safely and efficiently, and that production deadlines are met. The Refining Team Leader is familiar with all raw sugar packaging, storage and unloading equipment, and is able to troubleshoot when necessary to prevent production slowdowns.
**WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO WILL**:
- Schedule and supervise employees to ensure that necessary plant cleaning is completed, as indicated by the cleaning matrix;
- Work closely with the site safety coordinator to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety policies and regulations;
- Deal with health and safety issues as they arise;
- Train and supervise personnel as standard operating procedures are carried out according to their specific duties, including “safety talks”, and share health and safety/quality control issues;
- Maintain accuracy and approve employee work schedules daily using Timekeeper/Kronos;
- Continuously supervise staff performance and activities, providing mentoring or coaching as required;
- Establish weekly work schedules for employees, including any necessary overtime;
- Enter daily aggregate report from operator reports into computer;
- Provide support to the Superintendent in the preparation of budgets, month-end and year-end inventories, including other related duties;
- Familiarize himself/herself with the equipment and machinery used for unloading crude, with breakdown equipment and schedule repairs as needed;
- Train and supervise personnel when standard operating procedures and safe work practices are in place, including orientation;
- Provide extended supervision of employees when required;
- Sign and verify paperwork, including quality assurance, cleaning matrices, metal detection sheets, trailer inspection sheets, preventive maintenance sheets and liquid loading sheets. Check checks and procedures throughout the shift. Distribute documentation to lab, maintenance, office staff, purchasing;
- Perform all related tasks as required.
**WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO JOIN THE TEAM**:
- Degree in business administration or operations management;
- Combination of education and relevant experience will be considered;
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment;
- Experience in the food industry (an asset);
- Mechanical knowledge, comfortable working with machinery. Experience driving a forklift, palletizer or related equipment (an asset);
- Bilingualism (spoken and written);
- Good knowledge of food safety and quality management systems;
- Excellent computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) plus experience with inventory and packaging control programs;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good conflict and problem solving skills;
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations, manage stress effectively and make sound decisions;
