**Youth Caregiver - Job Description**

**Your Role**
As a **Youth Caregiver**, you are a critical team member in the daily life of youth in care. You are not just a support worker—you are a **mentor**, **advocate**, and **role model**. You will guide youth in learning and practicing essential life skills while ensuring that the home remains a **safe, respectful, and empowering** place to live. You’ll work collaboratively with team leaders, clinicians, and services managers to deliver **youth-focused, trauma-informed care** that honors **cultural identity, choice, and community connection**.
**Core Responsibilities**
**✦ Youth-Centered Engagement**
- Build **authentic, respectful relationships** with youth rooted in trust and emotional safety.
- Engage youth in **daily life skills development** including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, hygiene, scheduling, and communication.
- Support youth in **setting personal goals** and tracking progress in life skills domains.
- Uphold and educate youth on their **rights in care**, including privacy, cultural identity, and safety.
- Promote youth **participation in planning**, decision-making, and household routines.
**✦ Program & Home Operations**
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming household.
- Prepare meals, manage groceries, and complete household tasks in a shared, inclusive way.
- Transport youth safely to school, appointments, family visits, and recreational activities.
- Supervise youth during **transitions, appointments, and family access** when required.
**✦ Safety & Crisis Response**
- Respond to youth needs with calm and appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Recognize and intervene early in cases of unsafe behavior, mental health crises, or substance use.
- Administer and document medications as per care plan and policy.
- Follow all **safety protocols**, **critical incident reporting**, and risk management procedures.
**✦ Collaboration & Documentation**
- Work closely with team leaders, clinical consultants, and services managers to ensure wraparound care.
- Document daily progress notes, incidents, and youth participation in life skills and community activities.
- Attend ongoing training related to **trauma-informed care**, **cultural humility**, **youth rights**, and **safety practices**.
**✦ Cultural & Community Connection**
- Encourage and support youth in exploring and reclaiming their **cultural heritage** and identity.
- Identify and participate in **community-based and culturally relevant activities**.
- Uphold culturally safe care practices aligned with Truth and Reconciliation and inclusive of Indigenous, newcomer, and LGBTQ2S+ youth.
**Qualifications & Requirements**
- Minimum **2 years of relevant experience** supporting at-risk youth.
- **Class 5 Driver’s License** and a **clean driving record**.
- Valid **First Aid/CPR** and **Naloxone certification**.
- **Food Safe** and **Privacy (FOIPPA) Training**.
- Certification or experience in **crisis prevention/intervention** (e.g., NVCI).
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to support youth with complex behaviors, including addiction or aggression.
- Knowledge of **trauma-informed**, **nonviolent**, and **developmentally appropriate care**.
**Work Conditions**
- Work in-person in staffed homes in the Abbotsford area.
- MCFD background screening required at hire and every 3 years.
- Shifts are 12 hours (including evenings, overnights, weekends).
- Must be flexible and adaptable to meet youth and program needs.
**Wages & Advancement**
According to CSSEA Wage Grid
Additional: Overtime pay for applicable hours.

Pay: From $27.54 per hour
Expected hours: 36 - 40 per week
