Specialist, Navigation and Communication Systems

As Specialist, Navigation and Communication Systems, you will be responsible for guiding the concept, installation, integration and commissioning of the vessel's navigational bridge systems and internal and external communication systems in your assigned projects. You will define functional and technical requirements necessary to develop the design while working closely with the functional engineering team, design agents, and system suppliers to ensure the client and regulatory requirements are met. More specifically, you will:
- Coordinate your tasked project elements including engineering design, plan approval, suppliers’ systems specifications, commissioning and final sign-off to client.
- Work autonomously in determining approach and assigned tasks.
- Comply with the health, safety and environmental policies.
- Proactively contribute to the functional engineering team and work groups.
- Track and document client and internal changes and analyze in terms of feasibility and risk.
- Review and comment drawings, calculations and reports.
- Formulate and coordinate responses to regulatory body and client design concerns.
- Coordinate and approve deviations and redlines.
- Track tasks against the project schedule.
- Plan subtasks so they may be tracked and presented.
- Write reports and present progress at project meetings and to clients.
- Ensure that the required information is available to the procurement, production engineering, and subcontractor teams when required to bring the designs to reality within the scheduled timeframes.
- Provide updates on the progress and status of project activities as required to your manager and project team.
- Meet and communicate with various stakeholders periodically during the project such as client representatives, design agents, supplier representatives, shipyard production engineering team and contractors as required.
- Provide handover notes for any delegated tasks.
- Lead and/or support technicians and trainee engineers
**Qualifications**:
- Maritime experience/background.
- Shipyard period project experience.
- Offshore and/or service engineering experience of navigational bridge and communication systems.
- Ability to support worksite activities at various project stages (installation, commissioning and handover).
- Strong knowledge of marine systems and regulatory compliance approval process.
- Strong knowledge and experience of Bridge Navigational Systems (IBS, INS), layouts and topography, propulsion and steering systems, system interfacing and protocols, VDR, radar, radio and acoustic systems, GMDSS, signalling equipment, PC-based control and charting systems.
- Strong knowledge and experience of external and internal vessel communications systems, both analog and IP-based. Radio and satellite systems, antenna and radome planning and installation. ICS, PAGA, talkback, loudhailer, sound-powered intercom. Telephone PBX, shipboard LAN (copper and fibre).
- Experience with CAD software in 2D and 3D environments.
- Use of project-specific engineering software.
- Experience in console layout and termination coordination.
