Through innovative, hands-on programs, Western Engineering Outreach provides opportunities for young learners to explore STEM, inspiring the next generation of engineers. Our programs also focus on creating accessible pathways for underrepresented youth—including Indigenous students, students of colour, girls, and those from low socio-economic backgrounds—helping to ensure that engineering is inclusive and equitable. **Responsibilities** The **Manager, Outreach** provides leadership and strategic direction for Western Engineering Outreach, overseeing the planning, delivery, and evaluation of a wide range of community engagement initiatives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring Western Engineering is seen as a leader in STEM outreach and education across Southwestern Ontario. **Key responsibilities include**: - Lead the development and delivery of signature events such as **FIRST Robotics (3,000-4,000 participants annually), Go ENG Girl, and Western Engineering Summer Camps**. - Ensure programming reflects Western’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, with a focus on reaching underrepresented youth. - Oversee delivery of outreach activities across London, surrounding rural areas, and Indigenous communities. **Team Supervision & Development**: - Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor a team of outreach staff and volunteers. - Build a positive team culture that emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and student-centered learning. **Community & School Partnerships**: - Strengthen relationships with schools, community organizations, and industry partners to expand program reach and impact. - Represent Western Engineering at public speaking engagements, career fairs, and community events. **Event & Project Management**: - Oversee logistics, scheduling, and delivery of multiple outreach events and workshops throughout the year. - Ensure safe, smooth, and professional operations at large-scale community events. - **Administration & Reporting**: - Manage program budgets, staffing plans, and resources to support efficient program delivery. - Collect and analyze program data to evaluate effectiveness, improve future planning, and report outcomes to Faculty leadership. - Collaborate with Communications and Marketing to promote outreach programs and enhance Western’s community presence. **Qualifications** **Education**: - Undergraduate degree in Education, Science/Engineering, Business Administration, or related field. - Master’s degree is an asset. **Experience**: - Minimum 5 years of experience in outreach, education, program management, or community engagement. - Demonstrated experience leading large-scale events and programs with significant community participation. - Supervisory experience with a proven ability to lead and motivate a team. - Experience managing budgets, scheduling, and administrative processes. - Strong background in building partnerships with schools, community organizations, and industry stakeholders. - Recruiting and training staff or volunteers for community-focused programs. **Skills, Abilities & Expertise**: - Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple large initiatives simultaneously. - Excellent public speaking and presentation skills to engage diverse audiences. - Strong analytical skills, including the ability to use data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform planning. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with survey tools, event management systems, or educational technologies is an asset. - Ability to work evenings and weekends as required to support programming. - Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset. **Why Western?** **Background Checks** Please note, successful applicants may be required to produce current record check(s) (e.g., vulnerable sector, criminal record, and police information) from a police service prior to commencing employment.
