Are you an experienced carpenter with your Red Seal? We are starting a Carpentry Apprenticeship program where we will begin teaching Carpentry Level 1 in the new year.
We also have an immediate opportunity, for a sessional - Core Construction Instructor, to teach inmates, in Federal Correctional Facilities, throughout the lower mainland. Most facilities are in the Abbotsford / Mission / Chilliwack area.
For corrections contracts, all inmates are vetted by correctional staff before attending training. The intention of the training is to provide job preparatory training to assist in obtaining employment upon release.
Training with an experienced instructor will be provided.
For Carpentry Level 1, we require a Red Seal level Carpenter, preferably with experience teaching.
- Drawing, Specification and Layout Knowledge
- Basic Residential Framing and Basic Concrete
- Plumbing and Electrical Theory
- WHMIS
- Fall Protection, Trainer Certificate
- Forklift Operation and/or Trainer Certificate
- Skid Steer Operation and/or Trainer Certificate
- Confined Space, Trainer Certificate
- Experience working in a correctional institute or halfway house
The Carpentry Level 1 program will run part time (4 hours per day) on weekday evenings for 15 weeks.
Our Core Construction program is six weeks long, Monday to Friday, daytime classes. Currently we are contracted to offer 7 courses per year with additional courses in confined space training, forklift and skid steer. We have one other instructor who also teaches this program.
As an instructor, you are passionate about teaching, have superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. You have a great attitude, are patient and very adaptable, can engage and maintain students’ attention, have the ability to teach at all learning levels, and strive to facilitate students’ success.
The ability to obtain security clearance as well as having the COVID-19 vaccine is a requirement to be able to work in correctional facilities.
