A registered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Education, the Resource Consultant provides support, education and training to an assigned cluster of child care programs so that every child can be a successful member of the program. The Resource Consultant has a strong knowledge of child development theory, with a focus on programming for children with extra support needs, including but not limited to social-emotional, language, physical and developmental disabilities. The Resource Consultant demonstrates the core principles of Family Centered Care throughout their practice to ensure full partnership with families regarding their individual needs, wishes and expectations. The Resource Consultant will work collaboratively with Early Childhood professionals, Special Needs Resource staff and outside agencies to ensure the implementation of the _Every Child Belongs Model. (City of Toronto; Children’s Services) _As an employee of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital the Resource Consultant supports the Vision, Mission and Values of the organization through _No Boundaries_ Strategic Plan.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Facilitate the inclusion of children with extra support needs in community-based child care and nursery school programs, in an assigned cluster within the City of Toronto
- Partner with families, using the core principles of Client & Family Centered Care, to provide support as needed, including but not limited to early identification, accessing and managing services, transition to school, funding options, and parent education
- Devise & implement Individual Consultation Plans to support children with extra support needs to ensure and monitor ongoing development
- Work within teams (family, child care, interdisciplinary) to prioritize and creatively solve problems, conflicts and challenges, both inter-personal and functional to ensure successful integration of services and inclusion of children into community programs
- Create a safe and healthy environment in collaboration with Early Childhood professionals so that all children can be active & successful participants of the program
- Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive behaviour management techniques through the daily contact with children and colleagues
- Upon request, through a program consult, assess child care programs with respect to the program strengths and needs, and provide a written summary of observations and recommendations to the child care supervisor and Early Childhood professionals,
- Work collaboratively with partners including colleagues, clients and outside agencies to maintain working relationships, solve problems, disseminate information, and to increase public awareness of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
- Create, provide and facilitate training and education of professionals in the Early Childhood Education field, families and post-secondary students, to support capacity building inititiatives
- Maintain accurate records and communicate with families and partners in a timely manner
- Supervise, guide and provide leadership to students completing their field work placement
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Early Learning & Development

**Qualifications**
- A degree and/or diploma in Early Childhood Education with a Resource Teacher Certificate, Advanced Studies in Special Needs Certificate, or equivalent
- A registered member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education including 2 years of experience working with children with special needs
- Working knowledge of The Child Care and Early Years Act, The City of Toronto Quality Assessment Criteria, Children’s Services Operating Criteria for Agencies Providing Special Needs Resourcing and The College of Early Childhood Education Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- Ability to research and locate essential community services and resources
- Computer literacy (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & BoardMaker)
- Ability to effectively manage fluctuating responsibilities while maintaining a core workload
- Ability to organize time and meet deadlines and carry out all duties with mínimal supervision, exercising independent, professional judgement
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrate up to date knowledge of current child development practices
- Willingness to travel within the City of Toronto: access to a vehicle is recommended

**Physical and Environmental Demands**
- Bending and sitting on the floor when required; lifting, carrying or transferring children
- Exposure to childhood illness, bodily fluids and inclement weather
