The Open Education and Instructional Design Librarian is the Library’s expert in digital learning and teaching, including the development, planning, creation, implementation, and support of openly licensed teaching and learning projects across the curriculum. Under the vision and guidance of the LTID Librarian, the Open Education and Instructional Design Librarian will partner with library staff, university colleagues, faculty, and students to foster and support the use of open tools and techniques that enhance online teaching and learning within the Library and fosters innovation in open educational resource development and provision.

**Responsibilities**:
Oversight of Library instructional design (ID)
- Leads ID team staff to coordinate work ensuring design process thinking guides the work of the team
- Uses ID team skills in content development, design process, instructional and graphic design, and learning theory and knowledge to support library and campus initiatives
- Ensures accessibility of all learning objects/outputs from ID team
- Develops and oversees projects, processes and technical documentation of online learning object development
- Collaboratively leads the investigation, design, and experimentation with and delivery of general and course-specific learning objects, materials and tools
- Advocates for library ID role in learning and teaching by liaising with librarians and campus partners on learning and teaching support in the digital learning environment
- Builds knowledge of equitable pedagogy concepts, tools, and practices
- Continual development and process improvement of documentation, project management, and online learning object versioning practices

Open educational resource (OER) investigation, development, expertise, and project support
- Tracks the campus benefits/impact of OER adoption and creation
- Contributes to campus OER initiatives and committees as appropriate
- Assists authors to navigate the existing paths for OER creation with other academic support units (ASUs) in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching Excellence, Centre for Extended Learning, and Print & Retail Solutions
- In consultation with the Copyright and Licensing Librarian, provides copyright support related to OER
- Responds to enquiries about legitimacy and copyright clearance method
- Interprets Terms of Use and licenses, including as indicated by funding agencies
- Suggests record-keeping methods and record retention goals
- Discusses licensing of new work and copyright statements
- Seeks counsel from the Copyright and Licensing Librarian where uncertainty exists
- Mentors course authors in the use digital content delivery platforms, such as content management systems, Pressbooks, and similar platforms
- Provides support for campus stakeholders depositing work in open repositories
- Investigates sources of funding for OER development

Analysis and assessment
- Reviews analytics for Online Learning Object Repository (OLOR) and provides reporting as needed across stakeholders
- Develops and consults with library teachers on testing and assessment of developed online learning objects
- Uses analytical skills and approaches for process improvement

Direction and guidance
- Oversees and provides direction, guidance and mentorship to direct report(s)
- Coaches, trains and develops employee(s) to assure growth and development of that(those) individual(s)
Conducts annual performance reviews with direct report(s), and provides guidance and support for identification and achievement of performance goals and professional development
- Provide functional direction to staff that may participate on projects the incumbent leads
- Leads by creating an environment where team members are empowered to work individually, collaboratively, and collectively towards achieving departmental and library goals
- Promotes and values wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion in interactions with direct report(s) and library staff
