**About the role**:You have the opportunity to work in two diverse programs. Your role in the Record Suspension program is to determine the eligibility for a Record Suspension, and to support individuals in obtaining the necessary documents required for submission to the Parole Board of Canada. Your Role in the Reintegration Program is to deliver structured individual and group programming and to assist clients with their reintegration in the community.
- Possess strong motivational interviewing skills, crisis and suicide intervention skills
- Experience and knowledge of Record Suspensions access and National Pardons Centre
- Understanding of Cognitive Behavioural and Social Learning approaches
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Understanding of, and experience working with, clients that struggle with multiple barriers (mental health, criminality, substance use, etc)
- Deliver services in a way that reflects the racial, cultural, linguistic, and gender specific needs of the community being served.
- Be adaptable, reliable, flexible and willing to work at multiple locations including some early evening work
- Ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team
- Proven experience in effective group facilitation and individual support/ counselling
- Strong organizational skills and effective time management
- Willingness to “do whatever it takes” attitude for client, and program success
**Minimal Requirements**:
- Demonstrated communication skills; knowledge of the criminal justice system.
- Social Science Degree or Community College Diploma in Social Services with one to three years experience in the field. Less education and more experience may be considered.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Record Suspensions ( Client Services, Community Liaison and Administration)**:
- Develop a case plan for each client and encourage the use of community resources for assistance.
- Assist the agency in maintaining accessible, relevant, responsive, and quality services.
- Responsible to liaison with Ontario Works and other relevant agencies and stakeholders.
- Suspension process and associated payments, ensuring overall program efficiency
- Responsible for providing documents for the fee for service invoices.
**Reintegration Services**:
- Interview clients, assess client’s problems, develop and implement support and intervention
programs to assist clients
- Evaluate effectiveness of interventions and evaluate client’s progress in resolving identified
problems and movement towards defined objectives
- Provide immediate crisis and suicide intervention supports
- Offer brief solution focused support services (1-8 sessions)
- Interact, with sensitivity, with program participants who have mental health and addiction issues
- Provide community and justice information, referral and practical support services
- Write reports (assessment, follow-up, progress, court reports, etc.)
- Effectively facilitate group sessions utilizing pre-established curriculum in a manner that is engaging, interactive, and non-judging
- Provide specific and structured individual counselling / support to Diversion clients
**You’ll also be prepared to**:
- Promote the record suspension program and the John Howard Society at various community locations
- May have to attend evening or weekend workshops or events (only if required but very limited)
- Exercise extreme flexibility to accommodate fluctuating and varied program needs
