Equipment & Locksmith Technician

**DEPARTMENT**:

Temporary Full-time for approximately four (4) months

**HOURS**:

Approximately 75.0 Bi-weekly hours

CUPE16 $28.68/hr $31.65/hr

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide support, maintenance and repair for all beds, stretchers, locksmith duties and rolling stock
- Responsible for all models of beds and all models of stretchers.
- Duties include all preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting and diagnostics, documentation and record keeping of work done.
- Must be up to date with all new technologies for continually changing models and updates to existing ones as suppliers make revisions to the beds.
- Repair and maintain electric and hydraulic treatment and therapy beds and tables
- Maintain lock, key systems, and doors for all areas of the hospital, coordinating with all departments to make changes for moves, new construction and personnel turnover
- Create new keys and all types of locks as required install and maintain electronic locks, door operators, magnetic locks, mortise locks, and all other securing systems, devices, and passage sets
- Install new door hardware, assess and/or repair existing hardware including: closers, panic bars, knob, lever, and passage sets, push buttons for handicap access, troubleshooting electronic card swipes and repairing electronic locks, new door installation and repairs to frames and sills, combination locks both push button and electronic
- Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all hospital equipment on wheels including carts, over-bed tables, tables, chairs, iv poles, wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, autoclave carts, surgical carts, and patient mobility chairs
- Responsible for the assessment, maintenance and/or repair to all lifts in the hospital and coordinating with outside contractors for annual safety inspections of all tracks and lifts
- Educating staff on operation and safety of all lifts to ensure safe work practices are followed in order to mitigate risk and or harm
- To provide the Hospital with effective building infrastructure maintenance services. Assist tradesperson other related duties as required
- Must be knowledgeable and able to perform tasks in other specialties and work as a team member
- Must take all necessary precautions and wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment provided by the Hospital when performing work using chemicals, electrical equipment and other tools
- Organize and manage client needs
- Keeping and organizing stock, order supplies
- Coordination and supervision of vendors and contractors, coordinate and set up IPAC measures as required
- Operate within scope of practice/training and call on other resources when faced with situation beyond scope
- Be competent and proficient to work alone, troubleshoot, cover all trades
- Good interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and interface with various levels of staff in a courteous manner

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Grade 12 education
- Significant (3 yrs) on the job vocational training required to perform all duties proficiently and independently in the following: bed technician, locksmith, rolling stock & assisted equipment and powered lifts
- Requires ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications, wiring diagrams, and electronic schematics in order to maintain medical devices and locking systems compliance standards and safety measures
- High level of attention to detail, concentration, and work ethic required to ensure safety, and prevent injury or loss of life.

**PREFERRED**:

- Electronic Technician or Technologist Certificate or Diploma
- Locksmith Certification
- Three (3) years healthcare experience
