We're looking for a full-time Legal Counsel to join our corporate legal team in Montreal. As Legal Counsel, you will be a full-time, trusted member of our corporate legal team. The main goals of this role are to: (i) advise our internal stakeholders on matters pertaining to public company, corporate and reporting obligations; (ii) lead and execute on strategic initiatives; and (iii) build and improve upon the corporate team's regulatory and risk management frameworks. Primary responsibilities involve supporting preparation for board of directors and shareholder meetings, maintaining a global corporate organizational structure, assisting with earnings releases, product releases and other public disclosure, and being a trusted advisor for cross-functional finance, tax, regulatory and other business initiatives.

**What you'll be doing**:

- Serving as a trusted and responsive advisor at our Headquarters to internal stakeholders, occasionally including executive leadership, including Lightspeed's finance, tax, marketing, communications and sales teams.
- Supporting M&A and similar strategic initiatives, corporate financing, corporate legal requirements, and other compliance matters.
- Designing and implementing scalable systems and processes to enhance the scalability and efficiency of our global corporate and regulatory functions.
- Liaising with external parties including regulators, government entities, and outside counsel.
- Managing stakeholders to deliver on milestones for complex and fast-paced cross-functional projects.
- Engaging and empowering colleagues and stakeholder groups through training and thought leadership.
- Developing, drafting, revising, administering, implementing and interpreting Lightspeed's policies, procedures, and programs.

- Contributing as part of the wider team to achieve organizational objectives even if this means doing things that aren't strictly within the scope of your role.

**What you need to bring**:

- At least 4+ years experience working in a law firm and/or as in-house counsel with a significant majority of that experience devoted to corporate governance, M&A, capital markets and other corporate transactions;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, **including professional-level proficiency in French**, English and legal writing;
- Broad international experience managing varying regulatory, corporate and compliance regimes;
- Experience drafting corporate organizational documents and board and shareholder resolutions; and
- Comfortable collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders on different levels and with different professional backgrounds, and flexible in adapting to tight deadlines for strategic projects as needed.

**Even better if you have, but not necessary**:

- Experience working with cloud-based SaaS products and payments providers; and
- Knowledge of and experience with Commercial, Employment and Executive Compensation law.
